The article is confusing.

First it states the province owns most of the land in Waverley West. Then it states the city is charging market value for land for schools.

If the province owns most of the land, who cares about the city, just use some of that provincial land.

The province/city should have mandated all such infrastructure in the developers plans.

I must be missing something in this story? Who does the school division have to buy the land from? When the development was approved, were provisions not made for the allocation of land and a few details, such as cost, made with the developer? If they decide to put in a fire hall, does the city have to pay FMV to buy the land from who? Did someone approve the development of a shitload of new residential housing without considering all the details. I just don't get it.

This is the way the city has always operated.

They approve the developement plans but conveniently overlook the costs providing essential services to the developement...things like schools, librairies, community centers, bus service, ambulance and fire service...hell..even snow clearing for chrissake!
...just a few things eh...Smile

Seems so Freeman. This city is just a shithole of a mess. If it weren't for the general public who is either ignorant or likes to stick their heads in the sand , we;d have a revolution on our hands.

Buffoons at the controls. But hey, we elect them and we allow them to do as they wish.

YTou know, i gotta say, can it be possible that it may be the Ukranian influence ?. Not to be racist or anything, but who populated this City from the start, can it be , this mentality permeated how the City developed ? Serious question here. I mean, you got folk who think Kilebassa and perogies are delicacies. Is it possible, our City has been built from a perspective that came from another country and mentality.

I guess what i am saying is that they call Montreal a fantastic multicultral place becasue of its French roots, or they call toronto dull because of its Anglo roots. There must be something to it.

BECAUSE I CAN't FOR THE LIFE OF ME UNDERSTAND WHY WE KEEP SHOVING SQUARE PEGS INTO ROUND HOLES >

harumph!

besides.. everyone knows a square peg in a round hole is far better for durability and strength.. sure.. might make it harder to use.. but it will last longer

LOL Dean, but then there is the issue of water, but i see your point about being efficient, where one hole existed, why not create 3 more for a total of 4 .
