Just finished setting up my new one-cup coffee maker. The Bosch Tassimo. I will now test the coffee. I bought the Starbucks coffee thingies for that machine. VERY strong coffee... I also bought the cappuccino. I'll try that tonight. The coffer "pods" are not cheap.

I bought this machine because I often threw away the extra coffee I brewed in a regular coffeemaker because I always only ended up drinking one or two cups.

Only trouble is I have no counter space remaining.

I'll take that pile of cash sitting on the counter off your hands.. no sense throwing it out.

my wife doesn't drink coffee...and she's intrigued by that Tassimo thing and it's counterpart.

We priced them at Superstore though yesterday....
$100 for the machine
average of $2-3 PER CUP of coffee for the little "pods" (that's like buying at Starbucks directly).

You can throw out ALOT of coffee before you reach those prices...even if you buy some premium fresh-roast coffee. Plus, you've got SO much more trash to throw away per cup.

Hey GOM...you DO know you don't have to make ALL 12 CUPS with other coffee makers right? That you can make only 1 or 2 cups? Just use smaller measurements in the coffee & water Wink.

If you want some decent coffee and save counter space then get a French Press (available in one and two cup sizes) and a burr grinder. It's amazing how much better this coffee tastes compared to a filter/drip process. How do the pods compare?

There are "Premium" pods, like Starbucks, that cost about $1.20 each. The Cappuccino pods are about $2.50 each (not yet tried it). There are lower cost blends (Nabob) that run about $0.50 each.

The difference in flavour is amazing. I'll maybe have ya over sometime for a taste test.

I had a French press. I always felt guilty about putting the grinds down the drain since they were more like a wet power than grinds.

I have a 4-cup maker at the office. I make a 2-cup mug in the morning for pennies. There's no way I would buy a fancy maker like the Tassimo. Too expensive.

I just picked up a 2 pound bag of Melitta Colombian beans for $7 at Safeway. This has become my favourite bean, and I like it even better than the Kona and Kaua'i Peaberries I picked up at plantation/roaster when on vacation.

I buy Melitta but also the Safeway stuff, as well. I can't tell the difference.

mmm...Melitta....

One of their processing plants was on my way to work when I lived in New Jersey.

Passed it every morning...and the smell was amazing...

Agreed. We've had them in some of the hotels we've stayed at, and I love the single portioning, neat and tidy disposal, and always perfect taste.

When I was looking at Tassimo and other pod type machines for myself last year (I'm the only one who drinks coffee in our house), I remember seeing empty DIY pods (ones that could be filled by you with your coffee o' choice) at Future Shop. I would buy one of these machines, if I were sure that they weren't about to stop making the pods and leave me with a totally useless machine in less than a year. I was worried about them becoming the Beta Max of the coffee machine world, and so I skipped getting one when the regular machine crapped out on me last summer. Conveniently, Canadian Tire was blowing out $60 machines for $20 that day, so we ended up with another regular 12 cup maker.

Take a German manufacturer, make an over the top product, , give it an Italian name and sell it to North American "whitey's "....this is classic stuff.
