Who issued you that license? The Canada Literary Office?

Who me? That's an old icon. Can't you see the lettuce is wilted?
So who's gonna run after me in my truck while I'm listening to Power 97 reruns?
So what happened when we used to record music on cassette tapes? We're just one step closer to audio perfection, that's all.
As long as we have the originals at home, I'd say we can make as many copies (for personal use only) as we want. Making your own compilations is better than listening to all the rest of the yukky songs on the CDs...
Just think of the guy who invented the snow shovel... Does he get a percentage every time you go down your driveway chucking tons of snow onto your neighbor's front yard?
Could you imagine Dean paying for his Big Macs?
Could you imagine Iggy Liberaldust PM of Canada?
Oops, went off topic.
(No offence to old Ziggy on that one)
Who the heck watches that idgit Jon Stewart from CNN anyways? I change the channel once I see his face...

A radio station can issue a license?

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying...can you expand please?

I'll expand that, a license was issued to a particular radio station for broadcast. But there is nothing in that license which is passed on to the consumer indicating that further recording or distribution is not allowed. At least on music stations (talk stations have a disclaimer quite often).

I should have expanded that, while I feel that once it's been broadcast to the public...someone does NOT have the right to profit from a recording. For me to record or make a copy of something and give it to a friend/family member (ie. share it) should not be an issue. For me to sell it and make a profit from someone else's work...that's what is (and should be) illegal.

for me.. someone else stealing from the artists is NOT a reason to charge me. This would be akin to charging every single driver $2.00 everytime they get in a car because they MIGHT speed and its easier to just charge everyone then to try to accurately catch the speeders.
This is ridiculous and always has been, what makes it more ridiculous is that they are now charging more.

Listening to Nickelback should be a criminal offence. Those dudes suck...

Amen, Sister!

A bigger offence in my book is the proprietary Digital Rights Management schemes employed by the various online music vendors (Apple/iTunes specifically).

Just wait till all TV goes digital next year. DRM will become a household word.

Actually LD...funny you should mention that.

Did you know that with some of the digital recorders, and the new digital signals being introduced...that the broadcasters will be able to tell you what you CAN record and what you CAN'T? They will be able to send a signal through to actually block certain shows/parts of shows from being recorded.

I honestly can't remember where I read that...but I THINK it was a Yahoo News story I was browsing through.

meh... for every implemented security there are 5 ways around it.. 10 ways if you wait till they actually release the security.

On a trip to Toronto, my wife bought a boot-leg DVD of Chicken Little, not knowing what it was. She thought she got a great deal, under we watched it.

Digital receivers with built in hard discs can save the program you are interested in, BUT, you can only see that prog until the end of the month when the monthly subscription expires. (Digital pay TV). Afterwhich, the screen goes blank. The receiver also can send a special code to your VCR which can cause interference during the recording.
