LOL... oh man thats funny.

Those signs have been up at all Hockey rinks for a number of years, result = nothing

I don't have any hockey players (and don't play myself) so don't go to the rinks.

I haven't noticed at any of the (50 or so) v-ball courts I've worked, or few football/soccer fields I've been on.

And it's a suggestion...something to backup that referee who is throwing unruly parents out...so the parent can't claim they "didn't know"...cause it's in their face when they enter.

every CC has it
every rink has it
every hockey and soccer association has it as part of their rules and bylaws, most actually have parents sign a document agreeing that they will abide by it
some football fields have it, but the reality is that outside is not that easy to do

vball has it as well

Spectator Code of Conduct!

The Manitoba Volleyball Association in an effort to ensure a safe and enjoybale competitive environment for athletes, coaches, officials and spectators has developed a Spectator Code of Conduct. All spectators at any MVA sanctioned event will be held to this code of conduct. The Manitoba Volleyball Association knows we can count on the support of the volleyball community in Manitoba to adhere to this guideline while continuing to offer great support to our teams while they compete Provincially and Nationally.

Your suggestion has been tried. many many many many times, its impact is very little.

Yes...I"m aware of the MVA code of conduct (we have to carry it around with us).

But again, I haven't noticed the signs (doesn't mean they aren't there).

The only CC I frequent is St. James on Ness...outside the hockey arena, I don't remember seeing anything (though they have some things hanging that I never look at).

At the various schools & gyms I ref v-ball...I haven't seen anything other than a few posters (seemingly made by students) about "good sportsmanship".

And, it's only a suggestion...but if it's not noticed by even the most oblivious...then it can't be effective...

I'll be honest...as a ref...you hear comments and such...but it's much better than it was 10 years ago (when I was reffing in NJ). MOST of the yelling now are based on ignorance of rule changes...which I generally ignore.

But 10 years ago reffing HS matches, I did have to throw 3 parents out of one match, and had to forfeit a match for the home team because of unruly fans (throwing debris on the court). Both of which had nothing to do with referee calls...but instead with poor playing by one side or the other.

Like I said though...I like the idea...save for the few items noted earlier...most importantly the exclusion of those who should/would be allowed to play...save the lack of parental support.

I know some players who join a sport just to get away from their parents for awhile.
They either get them to "sign a permission slip", or even forge a signature so they can play.
Whether it's to get a more social life, avoid an abusive situation, or just to avoid a non-attentive parent (neglectful), it gives them an "out"...but they would have little-to-no chance of getting a parent to take the online course...and are to ashamed to bring forward the situation to ask anyone else for help.

Some coaches may know of these situations...and some may do something to help that player IF they can...but it wouldn't really help a new player just getting involved in a sport who hasn't proven themselves yet.
