Forget about throwing beer cups: Some Winnipeg Blue Bombers fans
might start tossing their tickets after a game marked by what some call
"overkill" security and an abrupt change to rules on beer sales.

While the Big Blue stomped the Edmonton Eskimos at last Saturday's
game, many fans were watching security stamp out stacks of as few as
three plastic cups, seize beach balls and send as many as 10 Winnipeg
Police Service officers to patrol the most raucous sections of Canad

Another rule change saw the sale of jumbo beers restricted to one at a
time, from two. But enforcement appeared to be haphazard: during the
game, witnesses told the Free Press that some vendors had
nonetheless sold two large drinks to customers, who then had one seized
by security. Other fans said some people holding a beer for a friend
during a bathroom break had the second beer seized....

Jon Doherty noticed more people making beer runs, a flow of bodies that disrupted the game-watching experience.

Football and Fascism do not go hand in hand. The above-stated incidents are ridiculous. When folks are paying good money to have a good time they do not need to be herded around and treated like cattle to the slaughter. A fan boycott for one game would really put a dent in the pocketbook of the team. Sad to advocate something like this but something needs to be said. Maybe if the ticket holders held a silent protest, with media in attendance to record it of course, outside the stadium.....better yet have a coordinated effort in the stadium during the game.

I could offer more suggestions but not everyone would be agreement as some fans could not care less about beer, freedom of expression or "fun"....all subjective right? And they are entitled to those judgments but security staff have no business ripping signs away from kids or grabbing beers from someone who is obviously waiting and not causing a ruckus.

no no.. right way to protest. Everyone go. do not purchase a single item from the concessions. Do not make a single sound. just sit and watch the game. no cheering no nothing. Dont even get excited when the people come and toss stuff into the stands or the cheerleaders "dance".

The Bombers are run by fools. That's been the case, off and on, for many years now. Last year was a complete disaster on the field. Now it appears they want to match that off the field.

They are run much like the city. React rather than plan and manage.

I keep thinking of some of those rude but fun English soccer chants that start up in one part of the stands and spread throughout the crowd......"f**k off you whatevers......." does not have to phrased like that necessarily as there would be kiddies in attendance but man, the point would get across nicely.

Absolutely pathetic. What kind of morons run this organization? I'm starting to believe they had it right in Eurotrip when they said "You know America was founded by prudes. Prudes who left Europe because they hated all the kinky, steamy European sex that was going on."....well replace America with Canada and sex with fun and you have the Bombers in a nutshell.

They need to take a look at what goes on in Europe and S.America when it comes to the Ultras fan groups and real fan celebrations. This is getting pathetic when a beach ball is illegal and you can't hold more than 1 beer. WTF? Are we 12 years old? What's with these Draconian liquor laws in this country anyways? I can go to a movie in Germany and have a 1 liter beer while I watch the show, or drink a half liter bottle of wine in France at my work cafetria....but no, no, no I can't HOLD a beer for a friends while they take a piss? WTF?

I whole heartedly agree that EVERY Bomber fan should boycott untill these asshats wake up. And to the people who actually complained about the fun at the games, stay the frick home if you don't like it. I for one don't want to go to a sporting event to sit on my hands the entire event. If that was the case, may as well go watch tennis or golf.

BTW, I also love Mizp's suggestion. Most of the soccer chant's in my birth country would also be banned by the Bombers. Most go along the line of (directed to the opposing teams) "your mother's and sister's are promiscous and we're going to have intercourse with them when we're done sodomizing you guys"...only less polite lol.

The fans need a chant similar to that directed towards Bomber brass.

LOL and probably rhymes or flows alot better then when in English eh?

Ya a bit better....the rest mostly deal with the opposing team performing oral sex on the home side, but again a tad bit more vulgar than that. What can I say I come from a culture that puts a lot of creativity in their swearing. A lot more creative than "F" you" anyways.
