Extending Chief Pequis AND an underpass... Will wonders never cease?

Not sure what the city is thinking. The "inner ring" road is not necessary, and traffic lights would do just fine. Shameful waste of money...

One of Winnipeg’s most talked-about street extension plans of the
past decade is finally happening, much to the traffic relief of North
Kildonan drivers.

The city is joining the Manitoba and federal governments in
cost-sharing a $110-million project to stretch Chief Peguis Trail east
from Henderson Highway to Lagimodiere Boulevard within the next two
years, and officials will confirm the plan at the site Monday.

Coun. Jeff Browaty says traffic on the Peguis expressway will be
funnelled beneath Rothesay Street at the midway point by an underpass
rather than go through a regular, signalled intersection.

“That’s what the residents are looking for. There’s no compromise,”
Browaty (North Kildonan) said, noting the need for the underpass —
adding about $40 million to the extension’s cost — had long been debated
by bureaucrats and politicians, even as many residents of the area
demanded it.

Sorta like the rapid transit corridor for the south end only. This is part of opening of the north end of the city and the development at the airport .

No, it was sarcasm Pavolo.

Extending Chief Pequis and building underpasses is the exact right thing to do.

But... If they extend the route through to the Airport and ultimately the Perimeter Highway watch the traffic grow as experienced drivers take a short-cut through the city... I don't know what that'll mean to traffic volumes.

As to building the BRT corridor in the south end only? They had to start somewhere. Where should they have started? Can you provide specifics?

This is needed, however I am dissapointed that there will still be at-grade intersections this route, a la Winnipeg style.

Okay by me. Can you provide specifics?

Were there any studies done to determine the highest ridership/need by route? Was the south route selected because they had mostly r-o-w's available to them?

ROW's??? (Right of Ways)

I reckon they paid an extra $7 or $8 million for row's around Confusion Corner alone.

south was selected because of the university.

Guess what Mass transit to the uni is going to be no faster then it currently is.. increased ridership? I think not. MIGHT be and I stress the MIGHT be increased ridership if they put a heated or plugin capable park and ride on the end

Tcona. VASTLY under served and poor service and an absolute ton of people that need to go just downtown. would have done wonders.
