I was driving home this weekend from god knows which trip out for something and I noticed the license plate on the truck in front of me looked odd.
The first character was about 2.5 cms lower then the other 5 characters. I looked closer and noticed this was because of a Upper case T about 1/2 the size of the other characters and above to the left of the first "regular" character.
What the heck does this T mean?

It used to be for truck, but smaller, beats me...

According to someone in the know, the "T" does indeed stand for "truck" (or alternately, Transportation).

It's used in commercial trucking (as well as the courier industry).

Come to think of it, I've seen them too, but only one or two...they must be a special designation of sorts...

I am always looking at license plates. I dont remember I time I did not look at the license plates in front of me.

heh guess I should finish that train of thought.
Because I am always trying to spell something from the plate in front of me, or finding interesting corallations to my life.

so.. driving home today.
I notice several more Ts.... but all either in the lower left hand spot where the day should be.. or upper left hand spot.. BUT none.. absolutely none with the first character of the license plate lowered by an inch.

Are you sure it was a Manitoba tag?

Manitoba used to put T on trucks (that stopped in the 80's).

They also used to put a T on trailers (now the trailer just gets a different type of plate).

I know some states in the US have a sub-set T like that (Pennsylvania is one). It indicates Transport vehicle.
