If I won I would open a no kill animal shelter on the out skirts of Winnipeg. I would donate money to the Childrens Hospital and Cancercare MB, I would ensure all of my close friends and family were debt free and I would take my family on trip around the world.

My wish? First, win the damn thing. Then, anything and everything I've ever wanted. Also, same as Goth, make sure friends and family are debt free. I will also open that shelter and hire Goth to run it.

Give to my children and select friends a nest egg.....
Buy an island.....live well, quietly and in a "green" fashion.
Set up a foundation to assist gifted young persons to pursue their educational and creative dreams
Design and build a year-round place, remote, in the Whiteshell that would be off-grid but fully wired...
Go shopping in NYC and make some excellent reservations for eats....then on to Paris, London and Barcelona with maybe a brief visit to Tuscany....
Set up a food foundation to teach folks how to eat and cook better
Hire an assistant, Lawyer and Accountant and perhaps later, a crackerjack Publicist

Throw $20M in a fund which donates the interest to upgrade/supply computers to schools in Winnipeg.

Spend the rest foolishly.

Of course the obligatory family and friends debt reduction/elimination.

and then...once all that is completed

Buy a place somewhere warmer...a winter retreat!

Then, start my own:

- E-Waste Recycling Facility in Manitoba (Currently Manitoba ships all it's E-Waste to a facility just outside Edmonton)

- Pet cemetery - Not too many around these parts. My wife in particular would probably lead up this project. All we need is money and some land.

Plenty of opportunities to setup donations to charities, or as others have suggested above, setting up a donation "investment" for which the interest is being perpetually donated to the charity(s)....sounds like a good idea (so far) ...with enough money at your disposal, you can make anything happen! lol

Keep a million for ourselves and then give a million to each of about 30 relatives and then the last 20 million to the church.

cute.

Actually, we feel there is a demand for such a place. Especially for us folks who don't want our spouses keeping little urns around the house...you know, fluffy the cat's in one over there on that shelf, and Spike the dog is over on the fireplace in his little jar...etc. It's creepy!

A pet cemetery would at least give animal lovers who've lost a pet a place to LEGALLY scatter their ashes.

Only $20M death? Cheapo! Wink

With $50M I'd keep $20M. I'd take the other $30M and set up an endowment fund for various activities I deem fit ( or don't have any other funding agency to help them ) mostly fitness and environment causes. That should generate about $2.1M /yr.

Out of the $20M I'd fund a dedicated training center for the Manitoba Fencing Association.

And of course the usual ( pay off debts, blah, blah, blah)

Keep $25-30 million, distribute the rest to family, friends and a few charities.

Then..........

Get the hell out of Winnipeg. Most likely straight to Hawaii. Perfect year round climate, still part of the US with a stable government, laid back lifestyle, and only 5-6 hours away from the continental US or Asia. I would have ZERO urge to remain in Winnipeg.

To the middle of Saskatchewan for us. Somewhere off the grid and self-sefficient/sustaining. Odds are that 3 people in Manitoba will win one of the 55 million prizes as well - so in that event - some plans must be scaled back. I like the sounds of Deank's church so I'll leave that on the list for the standard tithe of 10%.

At this point in time a mil would still be pretty cool....like I said to a friend today there is no sense buying something and eroding the principal....better to rent/lease and try things out. I think having some money to play with is perfect for those of us who are somewhat ADD/ADHD? hahahahaha

The Winnipeg Foundation has been around for decades and it grows. Imagine all the good a twenty or thirty mil foundation start-up could do.

I hope whoever wins the big one is a visionary and reasonably intelligent.....some folks get consumed by instant wealth and wind up suffering from teh classic crash and burn.
