Anyone know why the mouse and keyboard on my computer would not work? I have a Logitech wireless set and they just stopped responding. I then plugged in a wired mouse. It too is not working?

Ideas? Solutions?

batteries?

new CFL bulb near by?

cell phone/ portable phone near?

the plugged mouse not working is strange.. but can require a reboot to get working after a different pointing device was being used.

- Check the batteries?
- Plug the suspect equipment into a different PC and see if they work there?
- Driver issues? Mayhaps a driver update was installed without your knowledge, and it's causing incompatibility issues?

If all else fails, -Scandisk, defrag, reboot!

1) Is there a 'Connect' button on the keyboard/mouse/receiver? Try that.
2) Try cleaning the mouse's sensor. There could be some dirt in the sensor that is preventing the mouse from responding. However you also having troubles with the keyboard as well.

Thanks all.

I did change the batteries when it started acting up. The problem is BOTH the keyboard and the mouse.

I have rebooted several times.

I have also cleaned the mouse and pushed the connect button.

With both the keyboard and the mouse dead I can't do anything (such as scan disk or defrag)...

The only think I've not tried is rebooting after plugging the hard-wired mouse in. I'll give that a go.

This also happens when you shut down the computer with the stand-by button... Try disconnecting the mains and the battery pack (if laptop), and then reconnecting everything and restarting the computer.

Took my Logitech LX7 wireless keyboard and mouse home from work and as you can see it is working. Phew...

Strange then that the Logitech MX5000 mouse and keyboard both crapped out at once though.

Perhaps it's the USB dongle dooey that's dead...

Yes bluetooth is very finicky and many frequencies interfere. I have a bluetooth stereo headset, and sometimes listen to music while walking to work. On almost each intersection the connection is cut, as well as at many other spots through the city. I suspect that traffic lights are having an impact, maybe some other lines as well.

For those of you wondering, I never did discover what happened to the keyboard/mouse. They still won't work. I bought a new set and all is good. Eh, who knows?
