Do you agree with what Peak Of The Market and the Mb Government are doing with the small potato farmers by forcing "All of Them" to register and go through Peak of the Market first?

larry and his carrot must be having problems at peak of the monopoly. why on earth would POTM want to put the screw on small potato farmers if they didnt want their sales? if puke of the market wants to improve their image this is sure not the way to do it. funny thing, the DAY larrys new "rules" come in hes at a soup kitchen giving away potatoes for all the cameras to see. who does he think hes trying to kid?

The day that people can't sell their potatoes to whoever the hell they want to - is the day that Peak of the Market gets a boot in the greebloker.

Too many comradres and not enough free-thinkers left. We're in dangerous territory now. The next election is critical. There has never been a better time for a new party. Join the movement.

I totally greeblok Jondo...It's time to wake up the brain dead already and get rid of the "comradres" before it is too late for "All of Us" in MB...and it's long overdue for MB to have it's very own tea party again soon...and I am just waiting for more details about the new party or movement and then I will decide whether I give it a full commitment...

Yesterday me and the wife, daughter and grandson all went out to the country to go visit the in-laws and they gave us about 50lbs of good old home grown potatoes from last years crop and I had myself a nice ripe this years tomato and unfortunately they didn't have any more chard ready or more tomatoes ripe yet...Oh well more homegrown farm fresh veggies to come soon...

And one way or the other they were P.O/Outraged about what Peak of the Market and the MB government are now trying to do right now which is what this thread is about...

Here's the thing when it comes to marketing boards: ask the producers what they want! But without political interference (a la CWB). If the majority want a government run marketing board then it's all good. If they want to run their own boards also good. But all governments need to get their hands out of the mix.

greeblok and the other big issue is they are trying to regulate who the small farmers can sell to etc and by doing so they are affecting farmers markets and so on...and one way or the other... Why on earth should Peak of the Market or even the MB government for all it is worth have the right to tell a small farmer who they can sell their veggies to and or my right to buy fresh potatoes/vegetables from who ever I chose to?...

If you go to any farmer's market, take the one in St.Norbert, there a farmer can sell his produce and no one can tell him not to.

Right now we still can and what about in 3 yrs from now and what generally is misunderstood about "Marketing Boards" is that such as in this case they start with "Potatoes" and then the flood gates open up and then what stops them from doing the same thing to say "Carrots" or other vegetables?...and the point I am trying to make is that "Marketing Boards" become "Monopolies" within a society that control what everyone can do etc and it has been shown over and over again that it kills the small guy in the process...and then further limits the choices everyone else may have within that society without the Marketing Board or Monopoly in place...

The dairy boards seem to do well. The CWB seems to be doing well, despite the monstrous manipulation by Harper and his minions.

Boards can be good and bad. Depends on how the producers want them run I guess.

GOM I have first hand experience with the dairy boards as a result of my father was a small dairy farmer and when someone from the outside says yeah these boards appear to do well...Well I say Poo pa because here is what is happening to the small dairy farmers right now...

1) In order for a small dairy farmer or any other farmer to expand their milk production they have to purchase "MilK quotas from the MB Milk Producers Board" who put it out the free market so in other words from some other farmer who like in my fathers case was retiring etc...

2) Because the milk quota is now put on the free market who do you think has the "extra money" to pay for the milk quota that has just become available at the Milk Board?...

Answer big farmers or commercial farmers...and the result is the little farmer is left out and also being squeezed out...

And GOM by the way I forgot to tell you about the most recent fight with the crop farmers which has unfolded in Canada the last few years and the Cdn Wheat Board...which the small farmers at this point are regaining if have not fully regained "Their Right" to sell their wheat etc to however they so chose to...

Peak of the market has been the most successful marketing board in this country and in the world. They have proven to be the best thing for the farmers. The farmers are getting more for their produce by 87% over the average they got when there was no marketing board.
Peak of the market has developed "our Manitoba produce" as the tastiest vegetables in the WORLD, and as such they get a huge premium from the restaurants that pride themselves in the quality and taste that they serve.
There can be no criticism that is valid against Peak of the Market, just a bunch of clowns, probably the Loserpegs that seem to be around!!
