well I got my test results today- 2 Herniated Discs. No wonder I was in so much pain. Not sure if anyone has had a herniated disc. I will have to read up on it.

Ouch...My dad had 3 of them until he got operated in the early 70's on one of them and he still has 2 just like you still today...and...

And my dad had one of his brothers cut a tree down which fell on my father when he was very young and that is what caused his 3 herniated discs in his back and his back problems all his life and he is 75 now...and...

And one way or the other a herniated disc is a disc (bone in your spine) in your back that is putting pressure on your spinal cord and the one herniated disc my father got operated on in the early 70's was just about to put him permanently in a wheelchair because it was just about to sever his spinal cord and he had to have "Emergency Surgery" to correct it and many months of physio etc afterwards...Serious stuff my friend depending on how herniated the discs are...and...

And none the less very painful and my father still periodically spends many hours in bed today because of his back pains that come and go etc...GGF

toban71, Just a word of caution, please do not take medical advice from people who are not doctors, it make kill you. A disc is not a bone in your spine but rather a "soft cushion that sits between each vertabrae of the spine" (taken from http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/herniateddisk/a/ruptureddisk.htm).

Yes I had an MRI done yesterday. I have the 4th ad 5th veterbrae heriated. It looks like this soldier will be sidelined i bed for up to 2 weeks.

Wouldn't that be "Middle Back" pain?

Actually it is in the lower back. Someone on another forum, with the exact same diagnosis, was kind enough to scan his MRI onto a forum I frequent, which I have posted just above. As you can see, there is a bulge in the L4 and L5, and serious disc degeneration, which is closer to the lower back. There is much pain in my lower right side, shooting down my leg.

Ouch. What did the dr recommend besides bed rest? I have a few friends who use yoga for back pain, I also have tried yoga for my back and it does work. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Goth,
While I have not seen anyone yet at the Spine Clinic, the doctor recommended rest, not to do anything that will aggrevate my back (sitting in a chair, standing in one sport for over 20 seconds, etc.) . I will have to wait and see, as when the pain subsides, I will head to the pool, and swim 2 hours/day. I also want to take yoga and acupuncture, although I am not insured so I do not know if I can afford it.

The Premier of our province is not insured???
