Hi Goth,
While I have not seen anyone yet at the Spine Clinic, the doctor recommended rest, not to do anything that will aggrevate my back (sitting in a chair, standing in one sport for over 20 seconds, etc.) . I will have to wait and see, as when the pain subsides, I will head to the pool, and swim 2 hours/day. I also want to take yoga and acupuncture, although I am not insured so I do not know if I can afford it.

Wellness at Seven Oaks has a therapy pool. Easy to get into, warmer water than a regular pool. (ramps, railings etc) Just letting you know.

I will have to look into that. Thanks, Freeman!

toban71- The doctor told you to do nothing- why don't you listen to him? Swimmimg, yoga etc is not doing nothing.
I hope that you do some research, because there are non invasive procedures today to tackle the spine.
I have had 2 operations where they put me to sleep, and did a very small cut in my back and lasered some bone to relieve the pressure. Dr. Google, told me that in the US they did some of the lasering with a local anasthetic, and in and out in 1 hour, and all for $28,000 U.S.- on special of course! lol

The disc looks pretty much like mine. Naproxen for inflammation and about 6 months of physiotherapy may help reduce the pain. This is not something that goes away, and many people live with it.

I have lived with the pain since I was 17, so that should not be a big deal.

fair enough.

I found something that helps. I have been lying on the hardwood floor when it's time to sleep. This has done wonders, as when i wake up, I am not stiff and in excruciating pain.

Many husbands refer to their wives as being "pains" of some sort. It's a common joke between men, just like women have inside jokes about their husbands.

Are you saying that you sleep on the hard floor, or just lay there for a while before getting into bed?

If a mattress is too soft and does not support the spine it can aggravate back problems substantially. A firm mattress can help. Also putting a pillow or roll between the knees when on your side, or under the knees when you lay on your back often reduces pain for sleeping.

I have watched my 75 yrs old father sleep on some of the hardest surfaces imaginable including the floor...and...

And especially the floor while I was growing up and he also swears by the hard surface thing to this day...and...

And he has a sheet of 3/4" plywood and a very thin mattress on top of it nowadays ...and...

And because as you say he isn't as stiff etc...GGF

Thoought we were discussing toban's back problems.

@toban, what about one of those memory foam mattress pads. I, too, like a hard mattress, and those things are great.

I've heard those sleep number beds are pretty good. Has anyone tried one?
