I am curious about the Belizean offshore accounts.....after all, that little backwater is a pirate paradise....lots of financial shenanigans afoot there....was there not another MP (forget which side of the house) who was arrested there over two years ago? He was on Ambergris Caye, San Pedro town.....I used to get a good chuckle out of the FBI lists that would be posted at the borders and at the scareport in Belize City....sometimes the authorities caught up to these folks (guess the baksheesh/mordida payments fell behind) and then the TV crews would fly down, everyone would get drunk and all would be well.....god I miss my life down there.

She was on a trade mission to Guat and Belize....at that time the CARICOM discussions and treaty between Belize and Guatemala were front and centre in the news down there. There are several agencies in Belize City and San Pedro that specialize in the offshore business end of things....it is not illegal, yet, but more and more as the GOB tries to tighten the noose around the money washing Guat, American and Mexican ventures it will become more difficult to establish these financial beach heads. At present in Belize if a wire transfer of more than USD $500 is sent it is held at the Belize Central Bank until vetted.

Well that is usually the procedure but I know of many money transfers that take place daily that are cleared simply because of whom they are going to, where they are coming from etc....I take anything the GOB has to say with a huge grain of sea salt....does make for amusing anecdotes however.
