Please compare your pension from the government to Federal politicians!
I get appx $1200 per month, but I did not contribute a lot over the years as I was really stupid owning my own business!
What are your pensions from the government going to be?
How about from your comany?
How about from your own plan?

OTTAWA - Almost all the remaining MPs from the old Reform Party - including Stephen Harper - stand to collect over $100,000 a year in pension benefits once they retire.

Prime Minister Harper, who was first elected in 1993 but then took a break from Ottawa before being elected again in a by-election in 2002, would receive about $150,244, according to the group's calculations.
In a 1995 speech, he called the pension package a "monstrosity" that was "obscene."
Eleven of the original group of 52 Reformers, who captured public attention with their stand against "gold-plated" pensions for members of Parliament, are still sitting in the House of Commons.

If you pay peanuts, you will attract monkeys! And if you have enough monkeys, typing at an infinite number of typewriters, you get....the laws of Canada!

When I owned my own company I always paid myself a salary and made CPP contributions. Sure you pay higher taxes but a T4 is a handy tool for getting mortgages when you are self employed.

I contribute about 8% of my yearly income to an RRSP of my own (my wife does the same) and I also now pay into my public sector pension.

We shall see what happens when I turn 55.

My problem with the article isn't that MPs are getting large pensions ( which, in some cases like Blaikie double dipping, I DO have a issue with)

My problem is that it points the finger at Harper. What about all the other MPs? Of course the Libs will say "Well he promised to reduce the pensions, so he should be criticize. Of course it is okay for us to belly up to the trough, because we never made such a claim."

Blakie is the best example of what is wrong with the system , there pension plan is way to rich and is disgusting when you factor in the amount of seniors living on bare miniums . Not being able to afford the drugs they need, Stephen Harper is not to blame they all are and so are we. For we have allowed it to get to this point . The system is made for them not us in fact we really have lost effective control of it .

We say who goe,s there, but not what rules they live under . It is time for a overhaul of the system for it can work without getting rid of it all .
