Paul LaPolice wasted little time in making his first moves as
Bombers head coach on Friday, firing defensive co-ordinator Mark Nelson
and special teams boss Rick Campbell shortly after his introductory
press conference.
Both men had one year remaining on their contracts, so it will
cost the Bombers some money. But GM Joe Mack said two weeks ago that
the new head coach would be allowed to choose his own lieutenants.
LaPolice informed receivers coach Bob Dyce and defensive line
coach Richard Harris that their services are still wanted. The futures
of offensive line coach Charlie Carpenter and defensive quality control
coach Don Burrell are unknown.
Dyce is a prime candidate to become LaPolice's offensive
co-ordinator, but the Saskatchewan Roughriders have asked Winnipeg for
permission to speak with him about a position on their staff.
Conversely, the Bombers have asked the Riders for permission
to speak with Saskatchewan quarterbacks coach Jamie Barresi, who was
LaPolice's offensive co-ordinator in Hamilton in 2004 and '05.
