Is there anywhere in the city that you can go swimming besides the city pools?

ie... anyone know of ANY hotels that allow entry for non guests? I thought this was a very common occourance but have called around and the answer is either.. what the hell are you talking about.. or... no you have to be a guest.

YMCA.

Not sure which is the closest location for you. There is the EK YMCA, which I hear was recently renovated. The St.James-Westwood Y, which is way out by the West Perimeter, and the Downtown location.

Membership is around 45/month, with a $50 tax refundable donation for the first month. If you are thinking of heading down to the Downtown Y, be warned. There are many "interesting" people who loiter around the shower area gawking at you. The Y is also fairly busy at all locations.

City pools, the YMCA, or you rent a room.

The only other alternative, is to put out a sappy YouTube video asking for locals with indoor pools of their own to open up and share with you!

I just thought of one place that is relatively inexpensive, although it is quite the distance from where you live. The University of Manitoba. I loved working out there, since it's never that busy, and they have long lanes. Whether you want to head down all the way to the U of M to swim is a different matter.

Have you been to the Cindy Klassen Rec Center (Sargent Park) Pool, since they renovated the facility, Dean? I wanted to check it out today, as I haven't been there in years since I worked in St. James in 1999-2001.

"Have you been to the Cindy Klassen Rec Center (Sargent Park) Pool, since they renovated the facility, Dean? "

unfortunately my sons had the misfortune having ending up at swimming classes there this past spring. While the rest of the facility appears to be nice I will not willing ever go to the pool portion again.

Why? What is wrong with the pool portion?

Why?

Too much chlorine? Too busy? Too many undesirable people?

The worst pool in the city, at least in my opinion, is the Sherbrook Pool. It is old and the change rooms are downright scary!

The South Y's pool seems like it would be nice, but maybe there are too many suburbanite families?

Have you tried the Clarion? The spa has day passes to their hot tub/mineral pool/steam room, which is in the same area as the pool and water slide. It's pretty small though - not for laps.

I concur.

I went there, and checked out the inside, and quickly turned away and went to the YMCA. I didn't even look to see how big the pool was.

If you want a really nice pool...try the St. James Civic Centre on Ness.

Hours are limited as they host classes there frequently...but it's a salt-water pool...so no chlorine smell...and it's pretty clean throughout.

The chlorine levels are probably the same throughout all civic pools. How about the Rady centre? very nice area of town, and you can change in my gazeebo, when you come over? lol

Going to visit my daughter today, and she lives fairly close to the St.James/Assiniboia Centennal Pool in Westwood. Only been there once, never tried their pool.
