I am the keeper/owner/maker of two children under the age of 6.

Their greatest desire in life (besides sucking my soul and stealing my sleep) is to spend many hours splashing around at the pool.

While we're moving awfully close to the PanAm Pool (great for lessons/swim club et al) I'm wondering if anyone knows of any other fantastic leisure centre facilities w/ child friendly lay-out (lazy rivers, zero entry pool, waves, water slides etc.) Which one/where/why?

thanks

Its been a while since we've used that kind of facility (I told my 3 sons that we should plan a family trip to Grand Beach this summer when my daughter gets back from Montreal, they laughed at me). The pool in Kildonan Park (outdoor) has been redone and includes a spray pad. (I'm tempted to go on my own) and Concordia pool (indoor) has a couple of water slides. Check around your area, as the City has done a lot of work revamping the wading pools and they're probably one not far from home.

yeah the kildonan out door pool and spray pad is freakin great!

our indoor pools are well.. just pools.. and for some odd reason none of the local hotel pools allow casual entry.. they will book for a bday party but not casual entry. For that you will need to go to Grand Forks.

But we also have our token water slide outdoors.. fun mountain .. on the far east side of the city next to tinker town

I remember The Water Slides , going with 4 kids, was an awesome day! Noyhing but fun and enjoyment. Needed more shady areas, but I bet you the trees that were brand new, have grown into great shade trees?
What does it cost to get in these days?

Well, there were 11,000 people at Grand Beach yesterday. So I guess if you like crowds. With small kids, why not Birds hill?

As for Waterslides, etc. Winnipeg suffers as both fun Mountain and Skinners ( is it even still open?) are starting to show their age.

The wading pool/spray pad at Dakota CC is pretty good, but tends to get busy. There is also an indoor waterslide facility out in Steinbach that is pretty good.

Citizensourpuss, out of curiosity, are you somehow giving yourself, or convincing someone else into giving, a thumbs up for every post that you make? Just seems like it Excellent(ish) swimming pools/leisure facilities in Winnipeg to take young children to? Icon_smile

Having been to Winkler for soccer, they have a pretty neat looking pool, waterplay type place.

Splash Island in Portage looks pretty cool. Went with the kids to check it out last week but it was already "full" and they weren't letting anymore people in, so we ended up at Twin Beaches.

It's pretty sad that in a city this size we don't have a decent waterpark.

Snort. It's my magnetic personality or something.

Nay, I'm not doing it to myself. It's actually a function I've never come across in my 8 + years of wasting corporate dollars on message boards while sitting at work. I think we discussed it on my snarky parenting board, but decided that kudos/thumbs up was cliquish or something to that effect.

Thanks for the suggestions. Grand Beach will be totally awesome in January!

(Steinbach's pool is the closest to what I'm envisioning in my head when I'm asking about facilities.)

People can't give themselves thumbs up. Our resident curmudgeon is playing his curmudgeonly ways again. Our apologies to CitizenSourpuss for this. He'll eventually bore of it and move on to something else...

It does surprise me though that there aren't more water-slides in Winnipeg. I wonder why that is?

Meh. I took it as good natured jesting in my direction. No offence taken! I'm down with curmudgeons.

I am a very patient curmudgeon, whatever that means and I must protest that in complete confidence I told G.O.? I don't want to identify , HIM , as he might send me to "the other side",!
Complete confidence, obviously means nothing to some people! So disappointing! lol

It's not all punishment rosen. You can hook up with pavolo on "the other side". He is posting as old chum today over there.

waterslides cost a huge amount of money, are extremely risky, and operate in Winnipeg only from march 1st to December 30th

Canad Inns has pools with a waterslide(s) at most of the locations in Winnipeg, Brandon and Portage. If you want to use said waterslide you must be a hotel guest which makes perfect sense. I usually stay at the Garden City location a few times per year so they can use the facilities.

And if you think about it, it's pretty reasonable. Get a room for what ~$75. and you get the waterslides free. Fun Mountain would probably be at least $40 for a family.

Unfortunately the hotel waterslides are rather lame compared to what is available in Grand Forks or Thief River Falls. If I'm paying $100/night for the room I may as well cross the border and go to a half decent hotel waterpark rather than our "pool plus a slide" hotels we have. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that they build that damn indoor waterpark while my kids are still kids since we usually head south at least a couple times a year just for the waterparks.
