It seems we have a bad problem with rodents at our home. You can hear them through the walls, usually during the night. I have heard they can extensively damage the wiring and insulation of the home, if the problem is left unchecked for too long.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good extermination company in Winnipeg? I phoned Poulin's, and got a flat rate of $75.00, however I have heard they have a reputation of pressuring you into upsells. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just go out and buy a bunch of mouse traps and set them up throughout the house. That's all that the Exterminators do anyway.

what about Rat poison? And they seem to be in the walls. I cannot pinpoint where exactly their entry points are, as I hear them at night, but never actually see them. Seems to me there may be dozens of them, so it may be a little too late for traps.

The problem with poison is they eat it than die inside the wall and can stink up your house. We also use snap traps in our house in the fall when we get a few mice in our place and they work great. Just a dab of peanut butter for bait always does the trick for us.

Update:

Just been talking with a roomie who had a squirrel problem, and he thinks it's squirrels not mice. It makes sense, since mice do not tend to be as loud as the noises coming from the Attic of the home. I may just take care of this problem myself, if I can find some good info. Traps, instant potatoes, carbonated soda, etc. I will have to see.

You can rent a rodent trap and trap the squirrel. One of my first office jobs was office manager of a pest control company. Oh and bartron the poisons used today dry the rodent up so there is no smell.

hmmm...interesting. Maybe I will rent a rodent trap. Would I get one for Poulin's, or any deptartment store (i.e. Wal Mart)?

Poulins would be your best bet. Call them and ask if they rent traps.

I don't think they do. They never use to but call 311 to find out.

oh wait its a squirell.

well everyone knows squirells like nuts, so get a friend or roommate to come over. Hand them a sledge hammer. meanwhile you get naked, turn off most of the lights and lie down with your nuts exposed. Eventually the squirrel comes after your nuts at which point the friend can jump up and start bashing him with the sledge hammer.

The squirrell wont be bothering you the next day.

Somehow I doubt that squirels get into walls as much as the attic only. If you hear the sound of several critters, it most likely won't be squirels.

I'm pretty sure it's not mice. I've heard mice, and so has my roommate. We both came to the conclusion that it's too loud to be mice...
