Blue Bomber Hefney signs with NFL Detroit Lions 1621213

"WINNIPEG - Blue Bombers rookie of the year and defensive back Jonathan Hefney has signed a contract with the NFL's Detroit Lions.

Hefney had 66 tackles, five special teams tackles and four interceptions in his first season with the Bombers.

The Tennessee product was named a CFL all-star and was the East nominee for Most Outstanding Rookie."

That's too bad. It may be a rebuilding year for the Blue and Gold in 2010, and Hefney would have definitely helped the Defense

Damn, Hefney was great.

Granted that I've been losing interest in the Bombers ever since the Asker crap started and not following them closely, but I've never heard of this kid.

Just goes to show you what a terrible management of the team can do. Glad to see those two incompetent bozos go.

What do you mean? Almost all rookies sign for one year plus an option.

I'm glad to see Bauer and Kelley go...not Hefney.

too bad schmoo bad. That happens all the time because so many of these guys see the CFL as nothing more then a way of proving themselves so they can enter the NFL.

We need to drastically lower the foriegn player content of the teams. We have 33 freakin imports and only 27 nonimports on our team. Why the frick even call it the CFL any more?

We would dilute the quality of play imo. We just don't have the pool of good players to draw from. (30 million vs, 300 million)

"We would dilute the quality of play imo"

dilute it to what? Something people would not watch?

Fine, then dont have a CFL as it really starts to be barely more then pointless to call it the "Canadian" football league, when the players and coaches rarely are Canadian.

It's a totally different game here, even with American players.

Without the Americans, our game would just be another college league...good but not even close to what it is now.

American competition raises the level of play imo.

So again, what is the use in having the CFL then? Just so we can say we have a team?

Isn't that pretty much as crazy of an idea as Phoenix having a NHL hockey team?

Different game Dean.

If they lowered the number of imports the quality of play would suffer drastically. It's called the CFL because it's based in Canada. Not because it has to be an all Canadian league.

Why do we need to bother having a CFL if most of the players and coaches are American? Just so we can say we have a team? Why not just have an NFL team.

All of Canada can share one to cover the cost and we can all get one game per year played in our province.

Because we want to watch professional football at home? Kind of a pointless question. Should we only have a CFL if all the players are Canadian? What exactly is the point of that?

Should the MLB close down because half the players are latino? Whats the point of having a baseball league when they could just get a cuban league team?

the numbers dont really support us wanting to watch pro football at home. If so the seat prices would be 5 to 10+ times more so that the "good" americans would stay here for a decent wage.

What numbers don't support it? Having the 6th highest attendance of any sports league in the world? Or the record breaking TV ratings?

the numbers of what we pay the players so that they wont go running to the NFL at the drop of a hat.

Deank. You're misinformed. The league is not losing players to the NFL in alarming numbers. As many or more players enter the league after their NFL dream dies.

The game is indeed the Canadian Football League. It is a unique game with unique rules. It has history going back more than 100 years. Canadian content was imposed to help develop Canadian players. Much like Canadian content CRTC rules...

Canadians support the league. The Grey Cup is often the single largest TV audience every year.

The league allows non-Canadians to raise the quality of the game. That helps to further sell the game.

I don't compare the CFL to the NFL. Both games are entertaining as hell.

Well, playing for the Bombers has Hefney well-prepared to playing for the Lions (2-14)... he's used to losing!

Nah...the Bombers have at least been somewhat competetive the last coupe of years. In order to get used to playing for the Lions, you would need a team that has not done anything significant since 1991.

The Lions are the joke of the NFL, just like the LA Clippers are the joke of the NBA, and the Phoenix Coyotes are the joke of the NHL.
