Has anyone been there? My hubby wants to try it and I am wondering who has been there and what they thought about the food...I looked at the webpage and the menu...looks very fattening and I am not sure yet I want to indulge in such fattiness unless of course the food gets rave reviews.

I think they are pricey for what they are offering being that most of the menu is typical tex mex southwestern.....one could make any of these dishes at home (hint: come to my house for authentic Oaxacan and other parts of Mexico fare and lessons.....) Now that being said Mr P has eaten there, has much experience with mexican cuisine and he said it was good. I just think that paying ten bucks for a quesadilla is ridiculous.

I have to agree. I wish Casa Azteca was still on Main st....that place was really good.

Sorry Goth but that menu looks too gimmicky.....and who gave them the right to say their fajitas are famous? Famous where? Just that sin alone gives them a strike in my book. Pricey, pricey and pricey.....for what is simple but very tasty fare IF executed spot-on. The cholula chicken wings - their secret bbq sauce - Hahahahahah....the secret is in the title of the dish....CHOLULA HOT SAUCE......hehehehe....an ounce of pretension is worth an overpriced taquito I guess.

CASA AZTECA was about as close to authentic west coast mexican cuisine as one could get here and I knew the owners....their prices were good, the food was good and they were not pretentious.

Was there a couple of years ago, about three visits. It went downhill with each visit. And yes, too expensive for Mex.

Authentic Mexican cuisine, cuisine that would be worth those prices and more, cannot be had here simply because the ingredients are hard to come by in their freshest state for that is what really sets aside true Mexican cuisine from the Tex Mex herd.....it's many layers of days of prep, just like good East Indian Cuisines or French food.....the simplest of dishes is often the most complex in terms of the prep and would be worth every penny....this stuff on the Don Pedro menu i can easily make and most likely make better.

I regret not going to Casa Azteca more often, but it was too out of the way for me. I know that much of what they did was based on family recipes that Victor brought back from Mexico.

Goth: if Don Pedro's doesn't look promising, maybe give Burrito del Rio a try in Osborne Village. I have not been their either, but have heard a couple positive comments about it.

I would like to go somewhere that is licensed. It doesn't look like Burrito Del Rio is.

Burrito Del Rio is not someplace you'd go for a nice quiet dinner out with hubby. It's basically a Mexican fast food outlet with a few tables and plastic chairs.

I was there last week and the food was average. Except for the shrimp taco. That was delish.

BTW Dim Sum for me today...

CHOP is gorgeous....the menu pricey but I think their attention to detail and freshness is what separates them....for old time steak joints though, Rae and Jerry's is still the best followed by Hy's

Best Steak joint I have ever been to in the city is on Wellington. They have a simply gorgeous garden that helps make the food somehow that much tastier.

OMG brings back so many memories, first place my husband took me for a dinner date (some 30+ years ago). That waterfall, the plastic palm trees and it was so dark in there we could order drinks and never get carded....stoner's paradise....but the food was awful! One went there purely for the decor and the tiki bar.

If he is a fan of the fifties he will love that place....this is no frou frou steak joint but is as close to traditional as one can get. I say this everytime I post about Rae and Jerry's but I want that black sofa in the lobby...pure fifties leather and chrome!
