Restaurant probe finds $40M in 'phantom' sales

Cash income hidden using illegal software to avoid paying taxes

Phantom-ware is factory-installed software within electronic cash registers that can selectively delete sales records, leaving no audit trail. Not disclosed in the user manual, it is often passed "verbally" to the business owner. Zappers are temporary installations, such as a memory stick that can be removed to hide the fraud.

I would guess that "high-end" restaurants wouldn't use this , except Hy's" lol who were caught using 2 sets of invoices many years ago!

I know at least one past employer who is a horrible tax cheat, yet no matter how many times they are audited they manage to get away with it as they are very efficient at covering up the fraud. Really makes one feel like the system is competely broken when as an idividual employee you have no choice but to remit what you owe of every paycheck, but you watch you employer get away with cheating the fed's out of 100's of thousands every year.

The fed's need to wisen up and start offering some financial incentives to individuals who assist them in collecting evidence in cases such as these. Most people won't go out of their way to assist in these types of cases for fear of losing their jobs, but you add some financial incentive and perhaps some of these cheats can be taken care of properly.

Some, perhaps many, people confuse 'tax reduction strategies' and 'tax cheating' or fraud. There's a big difference.

IMHO, it's everyone's duty to pay as little tax as possible. Hell, even the Supreme Court has said that tax avoidance is perfectly acceptable...nothing wrong with it.

Really? I would love to see the ruling on that being that the ex has done some very creative shite and has effed me over pretty good. There may be hope yet to avoid total ruin!! Seriously....I am curious about this JTF.

Santa Claus is the worlds number one communist.

He uses forced labour camps to make toys ONLY for the children of the world that meet his ideals.

Paying taxes tp any government simply is a very bad investment! In the U.S. that stimulous package is reported as costing $300,000 per job. and that is the governments figures, so you know that it full of bull!
Any one out of work would benefit greatly by the government simply giving them a salary of $3,000 per month. That would get them 100 months to get a job!
Those on asssistance being given a regular chunk of extra cash would be buying food, clothes etcetra and the money would be bck in the community!
The problem is no one wants to help out the disadvantaged because some of them "don't deserve it"!
Right!

He hasn't said anything disparaging regarding my situation and until you mentioned it I would have had no idea as to any marital issues of J's.....the heartaches and abuses in break downs - the chicanery that can be employed - knows no gender boundaries.....acrimony, greed and bad manners are not gender exclusive.

It was Stubart that I recalled...

With Stubart, the so-called Duke of Westminster principle was rejuvenated and taxpayers continued to be "entitled to order their affairs to pay the least amount of tax allowed by law."

My Grandfather , who was a farmer, believed that on the last day of the year , you checked your pants pocket to see what was left over, and declared that as your profit! lol
I remember Revenue Canada threatening to put him in jail, at the age of 80 or so! He of course did not understand a word of what they were saying, because all he could speak was Jewish, an affliction that came when any bureaucrat was threatening him! lol
