Well I am now on day 6. My last cigarette was Thursday October 29th at 5:00 pm. I feel good, starting back to the gym, eating healthy and being as active as I can be.

Thanks. This isn't the first time I've quit but I am hoping it is the last.

No hacking or coughing. I feel good for the most part, a little tired and I am easily annoyed...but it is getting easier.

I found that with Champix I lost my creaving after a week or so. (...a year and a half for me since I quit)

The Muse started again after about six months. (Damn people at her workplace!!) Wink

When I was a kid, they hammered home the message that smoking was bad for you, consequently I don't smoke. Besides, my parents would have killed me if I had started.
One of my co-workers said that his 90-something mother smokes because back in the "old" days, everyone smoked. I guess the anti-smoking messages came later.
Is it still "cool" to take up smoking if you are an adolescent or do kids shun it these days?

When I started smoking it was the 80's, my parents both smoked and they didn't like that I started smoking but what could they do? I smoked steady till 1999 then I quit for 3.5 years. I started again in 2002/2003 I then quit in March 2005 and stayed quit till August 2006. I quit again in August 2008 and stayed quit till June 2009. I am quit again. I am hoping this will be the last time.

What made you begin in the first place, despite all the dire health warnings?

I never started smoking as a teen (even though almost every single friend did) because it would have cut into my drinking money.

Cigars or cigarellos occasionally while sitting around a fire, or golfing. That's about it. Never bought a pack of cigarettes (that I can remember).

I have bought packs of cigarettes personally, back in the late 70's/early 80's from the corner store - they were for my ol' man.

I don't smoke cigarettes, however like Cherenkov I enjoy the odd cigar, and have recently started smoking a pipe (Sail Aromatic being my personal favourite blend).

Not many health warnings when I started. Almost all of my friends smoked, my parents smoked, my boyfriend etc. When you are young you think you are invincible, alot of people I knew drank and drove...did acid, smoked dope, did coke etc etc.

Nah, the real difference was that my parents were regulars at the Mac's store on Salter and Partridge (now a used car lot) and on good terms with the owners Smile

oh we lived in a small town, actually a subdivision of a small town so the store owners knew all of us as well.
I seen to recall that the note was required though becaue one of my friends older sisters decided to "buy smokes for mom" one time and was caught smoking them behind the store.

I can recall my mom calling the store and saying I am sending Dean for some smokes, then getting all irrate that she had to write out a note. She was baking something at the time... possibly a cake.. hmm.. possibly my cake.
