One of the weirdest stories I've seen in a long time:

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/Young-folk-singer-dead-after-attack-by-coyotes-in-Nova-Scotia-park.html

My experience with coyotes has been great. I find them to be friendly and playful animals. Some of my best friends are coyotes. The news about these animals attacking and killing a person, seemingly at random, is very odd.

I feel very sorry for this lady's family and friends, but strangely I also feel sorry for coyotes, who may now be unjustly seen as blood-thirsty creatures.

Note: witnesses reported that one of the coyotes had an ACME rocket pack.

Was the point of your post to draw our attention to a very strange and unique story, or merely a plug for the ACME Company, of which you obviously own shares.

There are coyotes around the training area in Shilo and they were more likely to run away from you than approach....mind you, we had guns.

I think a rival of hers paid the coyotes to "off" her.

What a strange story.....Last time I went hiking in September I saw two wolves.....a rarity to be sure and a wonder to be enjoyed. Both were juveniles. I have never heard of a coyote attack. If anything it is us encroaching on their roaming grounds. We used to deal with them out on the farm as they would go after the free range chickens but what the hell.....put the damned chickens away right? Very bizarre.

odds are the coyotes were very used to humans and not scared of them... she did some dumbass thing like try to feed them.. The one coyote nipped at the other one for trying to take the offered food and then they just went crazy and accidently caught her up in it.

I can't imagine what might have caused them to do this. She might have done something stupid, as you say, or maybe they felt threatened or were trying to protect something. All I can say is when I've encountered coyotes in the Whiteshell they have been very polite. Still ... just goes to show that wild animals are wild animals and need to be respected.

human Female hormones, especially during "that time of the month" have indeed been known to make male animals from the dog family "go crazy"

I am far too lazy to even attempt to look for the reports on the internet, but we took it in survival class

Perhaps this animals were sick, or somehow in a position where they were starving and would take down anything that they could find. Coyotes don't normally hunt in packs, but in tougher times have been known to do so. Whatever the case, something out of the ordinary was affecting their normal behavior patterns, as attacks on humans are very rare.

Bingo. Now because of this, people will start jumping to conclusions about wild animals, as humans tend to do, and think that all these "evil" beasts need to be destroyed. Look at bears, wolves, cougars, snakes, sharks, etc. Massive culls where ordered because of a few attacks on people. A lack of understand animal behavior and a tendancy to jump to conclusions about things we don't understand really give the impression that humans are rather stupid creatures.

...and then the same people can whine when, years later, the animals are put on the Endangered list...
