Margaret Wente Globe and Mail
Help! I've come down with Swine Flu Overkill
The President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology recently predicted that there might be 30,000 to 90,000 U.S. deaths from swine flu, peaking in mid-October. (That would be a week ago.) To date the U.S. death toll has barely reached a thousand, but the President has declared a national emergency anyway.
In 2006, David Nabarro, a top WHO official, warned that avian flu could kill 150 million people.
The White House's avian flu response plan projected that as many as two million Americans might die.

What they fail to tell you, is that 40k people die each year from the flu.
What they also fail to tell you, is that of that 30k-90k number they are predicting, almost 50% of them would've died ANYWAY from the flu virus (not H1N1)...it just so happens they would have H1N1 instead.

Want some real facts?
Workplace Safety & Health are saying H1N1 is no big deal.
That right now is flu season...and you should be protecting yourself ANYWAY...so here's their bulletin on the matter...produced by their hygienists and through their research.

Also that.. they actually have no clue at all how many will die because they have absolutely no reference point or stats. they are merely guessing

Goth_chic wrote:It's kinda funny when you think about it....the government and media are scaring people with this swine flu pandemic, so they have people going to malls waiting in long line ups to get a vaccination. So basically you have a better chance of getting this flu while trying to get vaccinated.

say... wouldn;t that damn near kill you? Catching the flu and getting the shot at the same time? It would be this huge double dose that you body has to fight concurently.

That's my point. You are most likely to get sick when you are in a crowded mall, waiting in a huge line up to get this shot. It is fear mongering, people are buying into it cause they are scared. Did anyone see today's Sun? On the front page is that 13 year old boy who died from H1N1, why is this front page news? It's sad and I feel for his family, but how many kids, adults and the elderly die each year from the flu? Why doesn't that make the news?

Yeah...heard that quote from the dad too!!!
something about "watch your kids for signs of being sick because it will come upon them so fast...and will take them over so quickly"

WHAT?!?!?!?!

It takes 3-days!!! for the H1N1 virus to spread and become active in the body.
THREE DAYS!!!

So his kid should've had a fever for at LEAST 2 days before he went to the clinic.

His comment will make the paranoia worse. Make people believe they are going to meet someone with H1N1 this morning...and die this evening at dinner!!!

I really hate stupid people Sad

That's my point. Fear mongering at it's best. I am taking precautions, like I carry hand sanitizer in my purse, I am avoiding big crowds if I can and I am keeping my kids away from preschool till the panic subsides. And I am giving my kids vitamins each day plus they eat healthy. I am not too worried but I sure as hell don't want the flu if I can help it.

say now

If
a) swine flu is worse in "native populations

b) swine flu is worse in remote areas

c) swine flu originated in Mexico

d) Mexico's health care system for the most part is no where near as good as the rest of North America

How come pretty much most of Mexico is not dead?

Are they covering up the numbers? Do they have a special sauce immunity?

Is it because many of them are named Jesus?

In Mexico, H1N1 has claimed 80,000 lives, but 79,998 of them were named Juan Rodriguez so they only counted them as 1.

On CNN, their Dr. Gupta, mentioned that the per centage of people dying from the flu is actually down, so that is a very good fact!
There may be more deaths, but only because there are a lot more people !
That tells us all, that it is a media thingy, of course!
Our news starts with a show of people lining up with kids for a 4-5 hour wait for an injection!
I cannot think how unpleasant it would be to have a 1 year old in a damn line up for 5 hours?
Those parents have to be shot! No common sense at all! Send the grandparents to stand in line, and then have the grandparents send a text message when they are 30 minutes away!
Parents today are just so stupid!

Use of Surgical Masks-
Public health officials do not recommend healthy people wear surgical masks as they go about their daily routines.
In fact, improper use of masks may actually increase the risk of infection, as removing it incorrectly canspread the virus to hands and face.

Workplace Safety and Health Division Contact Information:

Does anyone ever actually read and QUESTION what is being recommended?

Are they saying there is a wrong way to take off a mask?
What utter garbage!

Next there will be a University Degree Course offered in how to take off a mask properly as well as how to tie your shoe laces properly!
This is like the media hype over getting the flu, which is not a serous strain of flu!

A mask won't save you from the flu, it will only prevent some germs from leaving YOU. As to catching viruses, you can just as easily catch germs through your eyes.

Not me! At my age I walk around with a mask on , and with my eyes closed, using my German Shepherd as a seeing I dog!
I never ever get the flu! 2 days ago I started to feel a cough in my throat and in my chest, and I got up at 1 A.M. and had a whole can of tomato soup, Campbell's of course, cayse it is loaded with salt, to kill me, and I am perfect today, except for the continual pain from my spinal stenosis.
My point , is and was, that the media are full of crappy , convoluted, inaccurate, full of B.S. stories, all slanted to sell papers!
If you want an accurate understanding of the situation you have to go on line and google both sides.
We do not get the position of any accurecy!
same goes for global warming, or global cooling, but that is another thread.
How many shots of the H1N1 virus protection, do we have in Manitoba and Canada that are going to be put in the garbage, when the "use before" date expires??
The different governments have wasted over 2 billion dollars on shots that should be given to the Members of parliament , 2397 times until we kill them!!
