anyone notice the new Liberal ads on TV?

Apparently they are trying to go the same route of GREEN again. No mention of taxes of course... but no mention of how to pay for their plan either.

Nice. Maybe having some sort of platform would have been a good idea. Actually, for marketing reasons it's probably a good idea not to actually have any plan.

I don't think that not having a plan is a good idea in politics. Without a platform (a plan), it's pretty hard to convince voters you can run a government.

I think it's almost the opposite. If you release a plan it can be misrepresented by other parties. If you don't really release anything there's nothing for the other parties to attack you on. That was basically the entire conservative plan in the last federal election. Release something very late that has extremely few details in it and just talk about your opponents the whole time. It works.

I believe that was the problem with the Manitoba Conservatives in the last provincial election as well. No plan. It seemed that every announcement was a reaction of sorts to the issue du jour.

It may have appeared to have "worked" but by rights the federal PCs should have done much better in that election... Who knows for sure?

Well, the majority of the public is pretty liberal (at least in Ontario where there are a lot of seats) so them being able to get in at all is pretty impressive.

well, after applying for a job working at cornerstone technology (a green recycling place), i have no proublems supporting the green movement. The things people would put in their recycling recepticles is just ridiculous -- we're talking about dirty baby diapers and dog crap, etc. You name it.
If the liberals are going to try and do something about it, i would be all for it. Not only for the poor person who has to deal with the bullshit, but the whole system itself. If we're supporting green -- support it properly, please.

ahh but for the most part recycling in Canada is a government paid for program.. they sell the recyclables to recoup costs but its more of an expense then a money making venture. government expense= taxes

Depends. If you provide incentives for using recycled material you can drive up demand for it and influence the market which will bring more money into the recycling programs and reduce the amount of tax-support required.

"provide incentives "

tax dollars ( or less tax paid by business usually) so again something that COSTS the taxpayer money.

Normally when government incentives are put in place it's in the form or tax credits, not actual money sent to the companies.

The government should get the manufacturers to reduce packaging firstly.

you know how that fill your own bottle program has been a success for wine?

That would work great for many other things.

Beer, pop, milk, dish liquid, toilet paper rolls, heck tons of stuff.

Ahh, yeah, sorry bout that. It evens out pretty much if the government is bringing in the extra recycling money while providing tax incentives for using the materials.
