dude supposedly has inoperable cancer and will die soon.
Dude was convicted of the bombings that killed over 200 people ( if he actually did it or not is a seperate issue.. he was convicted)

I say... well too bad... he should die in jail for what he did.

Fast-track execution would have been the way to go. Gotta quit coddling criminals.

On the plus side, he would never have gotten the devastating news that he had cancer.

yeah...i heard that on the radio yesterday and it made me sick.

so this guy gets to go say goodbye to his family, get hugs & kisses and have people care for him.

where was that sympathy from him when that plane blew up.

it's a good thing there wasn't any of my family on that plane...or i'd probably be finding a way to make his cancer terminate him faster.

it makes the government that's releasing him seem like they sympathize with this terrorist.

And dont doubt for a moment that he wont be treated quite well by his own government.. even if he only has a week or a month left he will be living in luxury I bet.

heh.,.. never noticed that before... check out the name of the scottish justice minister

Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said although al-Megrahi had not shown compassion to his victims - many of whom were American college students flying home to New York for Christmas - MacAskill was motivated by Scottish values to show mercy.

This is spitting on the graves of the victims. The mass murderer gets to go home , the victims never get to go home.

At my wife's aunts funeral last week, the priest went on about how it is encumbent on us to show mercy, and that by being in attendance at a funeral is a demonstration of mercy by helping someone to move on to their next life. Thats as much mercy as that bastard deserves. Let him die in prison.

He claimed he was innocent, and besides he hasn't seen his 95 year old mother. that alone is enough of a reason to let him out!
His whole court case was a big lie perpetuated by the CIA planting evidence!

I don't remember much of the case, but there are a number of people that say he is innocent....that he was convicted on circumstantial evidence in ther heat of the moment.

That may mitigate the situation imo.

Saw the interview with the Scottish equivalent to the Minister of Justice and he was very calm, cool and very rationally stated that, in accordance with the practice of law and the Scottish value of mercy, he gratned the release. Accoridng ot the medical evidence, the guy is as good as dead. Not a decision I would have made, but the Scottish guy made his point.

This guy better die pretty quickly or somebody may have a permanent red face.

Did you see the news coverage of his arrival home? He was greeted as a returning hero at the airport by a throng of people. This is not right. He should have rotted in jail.

Where does this tradition of Scottish compassion come from, anyway?

You would think that those assholes would have been a little more respectful considering the motivation behind releasing him and not treated him like the conquering hero on his return.

What I found interesting, was that even people in the Scottish government and legal system doubted he was guilty.

If there was a reasonable doubt he was guilty...then why was he in prison to begin with?

I didn't know much of the background (didn't follow it)...but being in prison for more than 15 years already...you'd think they had proved him guilty 100%.

The reasonable doubt must come from the jury....
