The Canadian Press Stephen Harper has begun handing out assignments for his new cabinet, and several star female recruits are expected to put a more feminine face on the Conservative government.
Should gender form part of the decision making process when deciding upon who should be a cabinet minister? Or should qualifications alone be the determining factor?

Deciding based on gender is no different that deciding based on region of the country - and just about every government does that. "Best qualified for the role" doesn't take all the politics into account!!

heh.. while that is true enough. Appointing people from each region of the country is not just about getting votes, its about ensuring the country as a whole is represented. Saying that you are appointing a woman to a roll just because she is a woman, means that woman and men are not actually equal.

NO; It should be proportionate or best person for the job.

Since there are more and more Females being elected, then maybe cabinet should reflect that.

I'm not saying that Harper should have an all female cabinet, but he should include some in junior positions in order for them to gain the experience needed to move up into senior positions. Those postings should be based on common sense, qualifications and ambition/determination.
