Can't save everything MrP. Nor should we try. North of that underpass is a disaster. Try to save many of those buildings and see what happens. I've venture a guess: nothing!

Plus, frankly, we need someplace for part's of our society to live. North of the underpass seems like a great place...

so basically we're going to encourage a "wrong side of the tracks" scenario?

NO way.....real tired of certain elements being pushed up our way....after fighting the good fight all these years to beautify parts of Point Douglas I will fight to ensure that my property values keep climbing. Sorry, but we had to deal with crap for many years before things got better.

even if we could save the facades of some of the buildings and build new behind them it could realy be a nice strp again its in the stage of death that the south side of the tracks s just crawling out of

who cares about the facades?

This is one of my pet peeves about cities. When cities start out...and start expanding...they build...they build new. They tear out all the old crap and look for the BEST and most efficient addition to the city.

Look at the Fort Garry hotel Do you think it was built like that because they wanted it to look "old"? No..it was built like that because that's what was built in that day...it was good.
Look at the Leg...the best of the best.

So who cares about saving old buildings that are falling down?

Want expropriation? let's go through that whole strip on Main...and RIP them down...ALL of them. Build bigger, better, cleaner.

For those being expropriated...they'll get their cheque...some sort of payment to say "thanks...now get out"...and most likely they'll take that money and end up in some other ghetto/gutter...hopefully in another city.

I was going to ask you about that,Mr P.......I noticed that pi;e of debris on the north side of the Bell but I couldn't remember what sort of building was standing there. Also Mr P, have you been watching the disassembling of the Reiss (Gray's Auction) Building on Bannatyne? I simply cannot believe they are going to go to the trouble of reassembling the buildings shell to hide the parkade its becoming. I'm almost certain that will turn out to be more talk then action.

Why don't they just give local residents sledgehammers, and have them tear the buildings down. They already tore down the neighborhood and the interiors...
