Would you support legislation that allows the recalling of elected officials?
school board?
city?
province?
Feds?
what would a recall consist of?
over 50% of the voters supporting it?

Would this mean recalling just the elected official in your area? hence you could never recall a premier.. but you could recall his seat and perhaps have him in particular voted out.

I am thinking that even if the process existed, it would never come into play no matter how badly a person does?

how it works in BC (well doesn;t work since not a single one has ever been successful )

http://www.elections.bc.ca/docs/rpt/rclrpt03.pdf
Currently, any registered voter in British Columbia can apply for a petition to recall their MLA. The voter must submit a completed application form to Elections BC with a processing fee of $50. The application must include a statement of up to 200 words why, in the opinion of the voter, the Member should be recalled. A Member cannot be subject to recall during the first 18 months following their election.
If the voter meets the application requirements, the applicant (called a “proponent”) will receive a petition within seven days. The proponent then has 60 days to collect signatures from more than 40 percent of the voters who were registered to vote in the Member’s electoral district in the last election – and who are currently registered as voters in British Columbia. Volunteers (called “canvassers”) may help the proponent collect signatures.
When the proponent has submitted all the signed petition sheets, Elections BC has 42 days to verify that enough valid signatures have been collected. Within 28 days after Elections BC has received the petition, financial agents must file a recall financing report. If enough valid signatures are on the petition and the proponent has complied with the financing rules, the Member ceases to hold office and a by-election must be called within 90 days. A recalled Member can run as acandidate in the by-election.

man this is crazy... must wait 18 months after they win to try to boot them out.

Then 7 days after filing you will get a petition. you have 60 days to get 40% of the people who were registered voters before and still are now. Then you must also file a recall campaign financing report.

man no wonder no recalls have succeeded.

At least there is an opportunity to serve notice to a bozo that you are not happy with them. If enough peeps feel that way then it is possible to do. That is what I like: it should drive behaviours.

Imagine if we could do that here for Chomiak and the speeding ticket fiasco or Oswald for the Sinclair death. Accountability.

Appeals to me.

and just doing the petition does not really cost the taxpayers much of anything. Its only if the petition succeeds that there is a cost.

Hmm..

K I have added recall votes to the Manitoba Party platform.

sorry let me rephrase that

It has been added to the items that we will discuss on vote on as a party platform. If it does not pass, I will not be a part of the party Smile

40%? Seems pretty extreme...especially when only about 20% ever vote...and obviously they don't all vote for the same person.

What's the point anyway? Judging from the way things were run recently...the parties themselves call elections less than every 18 months anyway Wink.
