If you thought some sites were bad in removing comments and such. Try posting a comment to the freeps website. At least 30 minutes from when you post until it gets put up and ONLY if they allow it.

Man so what they monitor and evaluate every single comment? Christ that must get expensive.

Yeah, I debated that with John White the last time I was on the darkside. He denies it of course. He toes the company line that boy...

CBC might be worse.

LOL its so obvious that its heavily edited and controlled when comments simply dont show up.

But I bet I am outing myself to them by posting this here.. hehehe not like its hard to figure out what my post name is over there.

definitely not hard to figure out what my name is over there.

I have not had any comments removed, but I try to be diplomatic when I write them.

Read these comments to see if you think CBC is censoring or disallowing certain types of comments.

These comments are from a recent Free Press article. Looks like they are not censoring much, but who really knows.

Meh. These are examples of NOT censoring? WTF? Fricking brilliant. You're a rocket surgeon aren't you? Take every opportunity to play your anti-museum bias eh. Give it a rest sport. Find something else to do with your time. I think this obsession of yours cannot be healthy.

Fixed it for you. You're welcome.

Yes of course they have the right to publish what they want. But if they censor opposing views leaving a very slanted and biased up it leads some to arrive at a very different conclusion.

It is not always a columnists opinion piece Pav. This is most often the public's response to a story. Let the public have their say. Edit the racist or hate or inappropriate crap sure. But not opposing views.

Enough said. Smile

Thank You , But the managment Researves that right is it not stated some where . I agree it is wrong but it is a fact of life I believe with most Dailies today . Now even the opposing veiws can be shortened or made to say what they want by editing .

Yeah, but it is a different game than LTEs. A paper will edit and print truncated LTEs due to space limitations. And yes they will filter the letters they publish.

The internet has no such space limitations. Therefore no need to edit or truncate. And if the paper really cared what its readers thought they would not censor posts.

True but papers I believe are tools of the owners thoughts no matter how hard they try not to be . He She pays the bills they have control .

Regardless, they are still good examples. People are weighing in with their views and the media isn't stopping them. I did seem comments about the Dave Asper story in the FP. Some words were edited out but the appeared to be swearing.

How do you know the media isn't stopping them? How many posts are not published? Surely you understand that don't you?

They're publishing some darn hostile comments. Most people wouldn't bother to send in anything filled with nonsense or cussing because they would you assume that those comments would be trashed.

Try posting something and see for yourself.

Those comments sections make my eyes hurt. I can only imagine what it must be like to have to read ALL of them, even the ones we don't see. The number of self-important people who just HAVE to comment to lay blame or politicize a human story, or to comment on some story just to trash another person who isn't even a feature of the story.... its ludicrous.

I've seen a number of stories of tragic accidents and the like have the comments get shut down because people degenerated into a fight over who is to blame or bickering over something like red light cameras, in a story where someone's loved one died. Or snarking personal comments of the lifestyles of people who are victims. Time and place, people. Free speech does not mean you are allowed to say anything anywhere, and the free press absolutely has a right to determine content on its own webpages.

If there is such a need to post your opinion, get a blog or post in on a messageboard site.....

I have been gradually reducing my "consumption" of this paper for a couple years now for a number of reasons. I believe recent subscriber ratings indicate I'm not alone.

The latest faux pas has this paper denying people the ability to comment on the pizza shop murder. Even the one article where comment was allowed has disappeared.

Me too. I check their headlines and a couple of stories....but the FREEP sure ain't what it used to be.

I love how they choose their premium content eh?

What I don't understand is why people don't find a go-to place like this site or others to talk about news stories, make their opinions known and exchange with others.... rather than ranting and railing about what the private company does not allow to be printed on their website, why not just circumvent them and bring it elsewhere.

I used to belong to a message board that had a really good news, politics and current events section where people did just that. It was enjoyable in a lot of ways, and we had some intelligent conversations that got going. Rather than just rants and judgmental opinions being expressed, it was real discourse.

I'm willing to bet many of the free press and sun posters don't know places such as this even exist.
