I installed a "Dock-n-Talk" in the house today. This technology allows your cell phone to work on your house telephones. I'm going to test it for a few days and if it works as well as it has for the last two hours I'll disconnect my land line. This thing will pay for itself in 4-5 months.

Anyone else considering giving up their land line in favour of a cell phone?

I moved out quite a few years ago, lived in three different places, each time never had a land line. My boyfriend and I each have a cell phone, he has two one for work and his own. We think it's too expensive to have a cell phone each and then a land line on top of that!!! Probably never will get one!!!

We gave up our land line at Christmas. It is still dedicated to our house as that is how are TV and internet come in but we don't pay for a land line. Each of us have cell phones and have unlimited after 6 so it is not a big deal. We looked at who was calling us on the land line vs the cell phone and it made more sense to get rid of the land line as the people who called the land line could call the cell phone of choice and get the person they were looking for.

I have already said too much, they might find I out know if I say more.

Its something that I have considered. We have 5 people in the house and 5 cell phones. (It becomes an argument as to who should answer the land line). I think that once the boys start moving out, it will become a reality.

When we both moved out (and in together) we never opted for a land line. We both had cell phones....and so there has never been any need for an antiquated land line. No matter what some people might say about congestion on the networks during an "emergency"....it's not like we live in New York or a hugely overloaded city...we have the capacity!

And besides....we live on the plains....we can see the danger coming for miles! Cool

In a word, no.

I would not give up my land line in favour of a cellphone. Never owned a cellphone, don't ever want one.

You wouldn't get good reception in a cave anyway. Very Happy

So when you come home, you plug your cell phone into the dock, and use your hard-wired phone? So when you leave and take your cell, no one else in the household can use the phone? I guess I don't see the point. Why not just use your cell phone at home?

Get better reception by docking your cell phone in your "hot spot" for strongest signal and talk anywhere in your home;

ooo and apparently there is also

Place your cell phone in your best area for cell phone reception and use regular corded or cordless phones throughout the house;

Good Post!

Heh, you'd be surprised! I get pretty good WIFI reception in my (well-appointed) cave. Mind you, you should see the antenna I've bastardized rigged up... Smile

You can plug in to a cell phone. I have a blue tooth connection such that when I walk in the house it mates up and allows me to use any phone in the house.

I suppose I could use my cell phone but the whole point behind placing phones around the house is so you don't have to cart the phone from room to room. Frankly if I did not already have a half dozen land line phones scattered around the house I'd not have done this.

If I leave the house there is no phone in the house. No different than if I use only my cell and I leave the house with my cell...

What happens when Deank's kid flushes the cell phone down the toilet, and it starts flooding? How do you call the plumber? Wink

Nah, just kidding, I'm sure Deank can unclog a toilet...
