Reading the comments section tonight on the Sun website, I read a Letter to the Editor about the banning of bagpipes down at the forks. Now, not being a regular visitor to the forks, I'm not on the up and up about this situation, but I ask, why would they ban such an instrument? Doesn't the Forks have a STAGE set up for musical acts? Isn't the bagpipe a musical instrument? If bagpipes are found to be annoying or distracting, I say get rid of the buskers with the loudspeaker, or the man with the drum, or how about the children with their plastic whistles. Ban it all, and make the forks a dead zone for sound...

Yes I agree I do believe there are rules as to where they can play and not . As long as they are not beside the table I eat at play away , some people have no sense of adventure and want the world to be some sterile experience.

I don't believe it either. I also object to some bureaucrat arbitrarily deciding what is and what is not music.

Of all the stupid things I've ever heard of, this one I agree with. As far as I'm concerned, the ban of bagpipes should be universal. What an irritating instrument to listen to?

While their history is unclear, one suggestion is that bagpipes originated in Ireland, which would explain all the heavy drinking on the Emerald Isle.

One of the most stirring songs on bagpipes is Amazing Grace.

Heh heh. I think rap is the most annoying sound ever produced. I say if we ban rap universally I'll agree to a bagpipe ban.

Amazing Grace only works when the rest of hte band joins in.

As far as banning rap, I agree, so now go out and make it happen.

Wasn't aware of the study that RC refers to, but it just furthers my point.

In response to Miz Point, no one said there was anything wrong with drinking, as a matter of fact, my drink of choice is Irish Whiskey, but that still doesn't excuse the agony which bagpipes cause which results in drunk Irishmen.

DeanK, the ban is official because you read it hear, what more do you need.
