A friend was quoted $1,800 to tape a 20' x 20' room.

Anyone else want to get into the drywall business ? Smile

that has to include way more then just the taping???

But, we really should get a good reason for the move in the first place.

If we have to rely on the provincial government to AGAIN revitilize the downtown, then we are in big trouble imho.

Nope. Just taping.

20 x 20 x ??? how high? does it include the ceiling?

if it's a standard room (8-10') high...then that's pretty extreme...if it's a vaulted ceiling though...it may not be so bad...ESPECIALLY if it includes the ceiling.

And is it taping/sanding/priming? or JUST taping? (thus letting the painter sand)?

It's a regular 8' ceiling and it was for just taping and sanding. Even if the boarding was done poorly, that's still a heavy hit imo.

It might well be a supply and demand scenario as well. There are not a lot of good drywallers out there and there is still considerable demand.

I wonder if they do this to discourage people from JUST getting them for their taping work. I'd probably do that too if I drywalled, because a) taping sucks, and b) try to upsell them by pointing out that for only another $X.xx, you could get the drywalling in as well.

$1800 is not a very good price- move on to the next guy!

My friend did do the boarding himself, so it may have been a bad job, but I doubt it, as he's pretty anal about finishing.

I kinda think the guy may have been a bit intimidated by him and his 'analness' about the work, but, in any event, the price was outrageous.

taping is the easy part...time-consuming...but easy...if you have the tools.
