The Pastry Castle in the Exchange District for fantastic croissants and cheesecake, amongst other things.

Not bad. I find Goodie's cakes a little dry.

We frequent Tall Grass Prairie every Saturday morning for fresh bread and pastries. My hubby is there anywhere between 7 & 7:30 AM.

Anyone have a good onion rye? I had some fantastic stuff from the St. Laurence Market in Toronto this past week and I'd love to have it regularly.

Anny, you might try Gunn's on Selkirk for the onion rye. Last time I was there they had a huge selection of specialty breads.

Natural Bakery on Logan, best breads in town, rye ,white, french, vienna, you can't beat it. And by going directly to the bakery you get a slightly better price and fresh from the oven goodness. Working downtown City Bread on Dufferin and King is more convenient for me but its not in the same league as NB.

I just can't remember it...
I do remember the snack bar in the basement.
I just loved those rounded snack bars along Portage Ave. I guess the snack bars are out of style nowadays, taken over by McDonald's, Burger King, A&W, etc...
They also had the hottest French Fries, yummiest cakes, toast, coffee, you name it.

They had a pretty wild lunch counter in Kresge's...across from Eaton's. Anyone remember it?
