I could never figure out when a citizen phones in, and the police cannot go in with a warrant, why wouldn't they just park a police car in front with or without an officer in the car.
Wouldn't that shut the house down?
Why not keep a 1 man car sitting their?

It helps to slow it down but it doe's not stop it and the evidence he is getting is not worth dick. As the requirements to satisfy the courts are so stringent because the drug dealer, has more rights to be protected during his illegal operation then the police have to arrest him.

Unfortunately, we don't have one-person cars here. Much too dangerous eh, even with a gun???

If 7/11 can hire people at say 412 per hour, the city could hire someone to stand outside these places, or in a police car even better, and that would prevent that house from dispensing drugs. Hell $12 wouldn't work, it would have to be a police officer, with a camera and a gun and a tazer as a back up to the gun.
That would close down the people coming in to buy!
To hell with trying to get evidence. The location would be closed down!
The area would be safer! It would work. This system could be privatized at a lower price uding WalMart hiring tactics!
The dispensing of illegal drugs from that location would be shut down! One could even use an alternating schedule.

I don't understand why they can't just put a camera up on the sidewalk in front of the house and the backlane (if there is one) behind the house?

Those are "public" areas.

Record everyone coming to or going from the house. Don't hide the camera...put it right there in front of everyone with a big "POLICE CAMERA" sign on it. Put it up high on a telephone pole (higher than the telephone wires) and have it monitored from a central location.

Should it be knocked off, a unit can be dispatched.

Ideally you could have a hidden camera watching the big camera...so if someone damages it, now you can arrest them for vandalism.

You don't need a warrant to watch a sidewalk...but those people "buying" would not want to be caught on film buying...so it will deter them from approaching anymore.

did they know it was monitored?

was it a public presence?

the cops should be SEEN for a deterrence...not hiding in the shadows.

oh yeah.. everyone knew the two guys dressed in suits sitting across the street with a camera were cops. no one cared...cops never seemed to arrest anyone, not even the dealers.

Good scare tatic too. I mean if buyers don't know what houses are being "Watched" by a camera, then fewer people would want to get to crack houses as them might be on camera...

I dont think you people understand what being addicted means. Most hard core users dont give a damn who knows what drugs they are doing.. Most users dont get busted for using.. only the dealers really care

But alot of tweekers or addicts are paranoid as can be! and other just don't give a crap. lol!
If you even stop the paranoid ones, thats still cutting into the dealers bottom line and as every one in business knows... Its all about the bottom line! hehe

That's why this 'drug war' is so stupid.

They bust the pushers and think the users will go away. WTF is wrong with this logic? DUH!!!

the thing with the "Drug war" is there is no magic fix for this. They have tried to stop the growers/makers, the inporters/exporters, the dealers, the crack heads... its a losing battle and everyone involved in drug world know that.

They would just move to a new home and it all starts again .
