This guy is a Canadian citizen, went home to visit his sick mother and has been abandoned for the lame ass excuse that kept Mahar Arrrrarrrrghr out of the country or not! We will never really know that the report that CSOS, the RCMP, and the Winnipeg Boy Scouts and Sam Katz all want him back .
It seems that his visa expired only because he was kept in jail. This is not right, and really smells from the Conservatives trying to keep Muslims out of the country, because of pressure from Jewish organizations.

I don't understand how a passport can be revoked, unless it was obtained under false pretences, or how a Canadian Citizen can be banned from Canada.

That being said (I learned that line from Gary Doer), the guy is probably truly a threat to national security and his sentence in the Sudanese prison was probably far too short.

A Passport is the property of the Government of Canada...it is not yours, so it can be revoked.

That may well be (another Gary Doer line), but to have it revoked when you are out of the country has to be unusual. Granted the guy was in jail, etc, but there seems to be more to this story. But if its all cloak and dagger stuff, then I guess the government really can't say.
