reading in the local Times paper today that Half Moon out in Lockport bills itself as having Canada's Best hotdog.

Can anyone confirm?

According to Anthony Bourdain some of the best dogs he has ever had were in Vancouver ( insert China animal market joke here ) but then again they do strange sh1t to them....I try to make the pilgrimage to Half Moon every season when in town....but they no longer make their fries from scratch! They lose points for that.

It is how they are prepared that is the key. I believe that the dogs are possibly moved from different pots of boiling water. The old half moon was better than the new half moon. I gave up on the new half moon because the dogs served weren't hot enough. I had to ask for them to be done extra well, and one time when I returned my wife and my order, they put it in the microwave and nuked the bun, and onions at the same time. I gave them back , got my money back and now instead of going out there 6 times in the summer I go out there maybe once.
To drive all the way out there and be disappointed is too much for me. I can remember going out there each Sunday going back to the 1950's, when the original half moon was there and every 5th or so double dog had a triple dog as a bonus.

another spot of note though is on the old lockport road north of floodgates....where everyone likes to fish....there is a chip shop, hot dog and burger joint there as \i recall that was kinda cool

Taht old road |I am thinking of is on the west side of the locks, a gravel road that you follow up past the english garden place? River road i believe it is....

The old quonset huts for the half moon are on the east side of the river.....north of the half moon location, yes, south of lockport

Well my memory doe's not go back as far as yours I do know it is not what it once was the food is bland and it is living off its laurels . Still go for Ice cream and to scope out the sale items along Henderson.

The current Half Moon is not the original one, but the new one sure knew what it was doing when it "took" the name, because the owner of the old half moon had not registered the name.
For many years both restaurants did lots of business, and it was only when the old man running the old half Moon was physically beaten in a late night robbery that the old man simply closed up his store.
I think the current Half Moon simply pushes out too many dogs too soon! That is why the dogs aren't fully cooked, in my opinion.

I always go to the half moon for a special hot dog in summers. I love them! I's not just the dog though, the fries and onion rings are good, and so are the surroundings.
