I think that Doer is just shuffling offices around to make things look like they are making things happen.

What is MIT going to do with the buildings they own and occupy at present?

This move bullshit is tantamount to Energy slogans and new flags...just more bullshit from the Doer government that amounts to zero but costs millions.

Where are the MIT offices now?

it sure would have been nice if the person writing the article had asked the question... why does MIT need new office space?and the question what will be done with thier existing office space... and the question does the government or one of its companies not already have open office space available?

thats a pretty elusive question... but 215 garry street seems to be some of them at least.

270 Osborne and 1700 Portage too.

What is weird is that the people at 1700 Portage Avenue are running out of room. They put out contracts for building maintenance and are responsible for making sure the government owned buildings are looked after properly, amoung a few other small things.

However, the Doer government is on a mission to sell off their buildings because they don't want to be in the property management business.

So, what all this amounts to is the government expanding a department that they will eventually shut down.

Makes perfect sense to me....NOT.

It is a positive thing when the Provincial Government needs more space and are willing to rent that space in town and not is another province, where it is cheaper!

its not a positive thing when provincial departments grow without just cause.
Nor is it a positive thing to force centralization of departments in this day of electronic communication which makes decentralization very cost effective

Centralization is a good thing IMO.

completely different departments that dont often need to deal with each other... why do we need to force them downtown to simply make Winnipeg and Manitoba look better?

Huh? Facts not in evidence. Please post 20 links backing up your claim. Thank you. a.

I do believe that the job growth in this province can mostly be attributed to Doer growing the government bureaucracy if I'm not mistaken.

I believe you are mostly correct. That is the problem. It is not sustainable in any way, shape or form.

That is also the problem. Manitoban's don't seem to want to see that. Business needs to be the leaders in job creation. Not government.

Indeed you are a wise Grumpy Old Man. Reliance on the public sector is not sustainable. We need a tax structure and policies that encourage private investment. Maybe then one day we'll again see private companies building office space downtown instead of just crown corps and gov't agencies.
