Do you purchase brand name foods or do you save with no name products? For most things I don't mind no name products, it tastes pretty much the same as the brand name. BUT.........one thing in my house cannot be a no name product, and thats ketchup, its Heinz or nothing at all, no name cannot even come close to doing it justice.

You can't speculate with pasta either...
Or at least, let your mother-in-law taste it before you do...

I see Superstore's "no-name" brand is returning to its original black on yellow colour scheme. Most of these products are just as good, but I will agree that Heinz ketchup is the only kind.

If you have the chance and for your own health check out the sodium content and report back!
You might be shocked at how much salt and sugar is added to products.

E.D.Smith ketchup blows Heinz's away anyday imo...but it's hard to find.
I always understood "no name" or "store brand" to be regular stuff from a regular company but just in different bottles; sometimes with a slight variation in formula.

That's my take as well. Some things (Coca Cola) are not well replaced by no name products. Others are.

I will buy some stuff no name but I stick with Campbell's soup, Kraft Dinner and Heinz ketchup. There are certain things that you just can't buy no name.

There are just some things that I buy the brand name rather than the no name. Funny, I usually buy the no name pasta, but thats because we go through it so fast. I don't think my sons actually taste it, its more like they just inhale it.

the pasta sure and maybe even the no name sauce as they are not that bad. Its mostly the "packaged" stuff that no name really falls down on.

I buy name brand pasta because when I buy spaghetti I always buy whole wheat. The only no name I have tried is Compliments from Sobey's and it's okay....

My god, you are going healthy. Can't say that I've gone as far as whole wheat pasta. Shows dedication.

Whole wheat pasta tastes better and it is way more filling then the white stuff.

At Superstore you had the name brand, then PC, which was made exclusively for PC, and was marketed as the "best made" for their private label, wnd then the no-name , which was marketed as the cheapest available, but I am sure they wouldn't use "cheapest" in their advertising.
All large national stores have items made that they market as their own brand. It allows them to make a bigger % mark up, and give the consumer a break in the cost, except that I have noticed that Safeway usually charge as much for the private label brand as they do for the name brand, because they charge lots for the stuff they sell.
