NAPLES, Fla. -- The National Hockey League appears ready to curb fighting in the game. Even though the majority of the league's general managers believe fighting has its place in the sport, they have decided to make recommendations that will almost certainly lower the number of fights in NHL games.

The GMs have proposed that a 10-minute misconduct penalty be
given to players who engage in staged fights right after a faceoff. They'd also like to see the instigator rule be more strictly enforced, particularly in cases where a player wearing a visor initiates a fight or a player drops the gloves after a teammate has been bodychecked.

What's the part about a player wearing a visor?

I think some "tough" guys like Steve Ott run around making a complete asshat of themselves and pick fights while wearing a visor. They want anyone starting a fight while wearing a visor to take an additional penalty. Sounds right to me...

What percentage of player wear visors these days?

Are they supposed to take their visors off first?

I don't know what the percentage is but the number is growing. Some folks that start fights while wearing a visor take their helmet off first.

This is also quite controversial right now as it seems more players are sustaining head injuries while fighting (duh).

I'm mixed in that I think fighting makes hockey look third rate. I also find them most exciting. Lastly people like Ott and Avery need someone around to tune them up after they pull their stunts.

Personaly I think that the Americans want the fighting as it sells to them . They really don't understand the game at all most of them .
