I caught a small glimpse on TV last night of people spouting off of HOLY COW watchman opens to 55 million in sales... and a few stories about.. its because in times of economic woe....people flock to the theatres for "a break from reality"

then comes this little article.

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/reuters/090310/entertainment/centertainment_us_boxoffice

""Watchmen," an unorthodox superhero movie that took two decades to reach the big screen, took the No. 1 spot at the weekend box office in North America on Sunday, but fell a bit short of expectations."
apparently they were expecting at least 60 million... and was way below "300" two years ago of 71 million

soo...........who is blowing smoke up who's ass here? what was up with the blurb on TV last night about how movie pundits are amazed by the sales and are "immune to bleak economic times"?

They probably would have exceeded expectations if they actually had someone blowing smoke up someone else's ass.

I saw bits and pieces of a story about Gone With The Wind and how it performed during the last recession. Seems peeps do indeed like to escape reality when times are bad. This time we have TV. But who is to say when you only have a few dollars to spend on entertainment the movies are the most popular choice.

I understand the Winnipeg Police will not take statements from peeps when they are drove over.
