there has to be something missing from this story.. for it to end up with the statement

"Brandon police officers were checking a vehicle, which was parked outside a motel on the Trans-Canada Highway, due to a possible medical issue around 4:30 p.m."

Must have been aboriginal cigarettes which go for about $15?? per carton before taxes. Cigarettes sell for $90 per carton- pretty big spread to make money.
How many cartond did they have? 1500 or 150?- sell at $40 and pocket $25 per carton. I would buy!

I guess, if seeing that many cigarettes, you can either deduce that there's trafficking going on, or they're for personal use, which at that amount, would definitely be a medical issue!

Were they actually in the car when the cops checked it out? If so, I can see how they would have been checking a medical issue. Not normal for someone to be in a car at 4 in the morning in a motel parking lot.

They might have been told that somebody may have passed out in the car.

the report says PM.. not AM...

perfectly reasonable for someone to be sleeping in a car at 4PM after driving all night from Ontario with a load of cigarettes.

Got up early one morning, found a guy in his car in the lane behind my house. Sleeping, passed out, dead or whatever, called 911. Fire department showed up, gave him a rude awakening, then cops showed up arrested him, (assume drunk), then tow truck came for his car.

Whatever the reason in this case, cops had a reason to approach the car, and they did and voila, bad guys caught.

Maybe somebody 'dropped a dime' on the smugglers...ripped off, didn't pay, whatever....saw their car and called the cops with a story in order for what happened to have happened...

or like most things about smuggling and drugs and such in Canada the RCMP were quite well aware of what was happening.

you dont honestly think that they randomly stumble on trucks and cars in the middle of the night on a deserted section of road for a routine traffic stop and "discover" so many drug shipments do you?
