Education should be a basic right for all.

Here is a fine case if child abuse if I have ever seen one. This mother should be charged and sent to jail for what she is doing to her daughter. And if there are other children in her care they should be taken from her and guardianship given to another responsible adult.

I completely agree. This girl's mother sounds bitter.

But why does the school division need that child's mothers' signed permission? They sound like they are leaning on some archaic rule while doing a great diservice to the child.

Bjornson needs to step in immediately and resolve this issue.

No CFS seizes the child only when they are in danger then they proceed to prove that the parent is unfit .

Butisnt that what the story says that before turning 16 she had been seized?

I have not read it all but CFS from what I hear did and then the kid went home to try again with mom .

Even if your child has been taken from you by CFS you are still considered the legal guardian in the eyes of the law and when a child is between the ages of 16 and 18 a legal guardian has the right to say no to you going to school. this young lady had to have her legal guardian, in this case her mother, sign papers saying she was approving her daughter go to school, first in Portage and then in Powerview. When she was living in Powerview she was with family friends, not with her mom but thought that if she was living in the same community as her mom it wouldn't be as much of a problem but obviously it was. For me it is a case of jealousy on the mom's part most likely the mom doesn't want the daughter to do better than she has. Some role model she is............. should have all of her parental rights now and going forward revoked.

Good post but if the CFS has shown to the courts you are unfit to parent you are no longer the guardian or contiune to have that right . I don't believe that was the case here though .

Who gives a crap about CFS? How stupid is it for the system to allow a parent to refuse to let her child attend school? There should be no discussion, no courts, no bullshit, no CFS or anything else. The Minister should just step in a let the kid go to school. Once she's in school, then they can slap the b1tch mother up side the head for being an asshole.

And what happens in a good family where the kid is being an asshat and decided to run away to The Pas to go to school to follow his/her boyfriend? should the parents not have any control then either?
