Did anyone else watch? I was disappointed that Mickey Rourke didn't win for best actor. It went to that tool Sean Penn....

As he said, communist homo-loving sons-of-a-gun!

So you can see, I obviously watched the oscars. I loved Hugh Jackman's do-it-yourself opening number.

I was semi-watching.

Other than Ben Mulroney, CTV had the dumbassed worst Interviewers EVER. Completely clueless...didn't even know whom they were interviewing.

That's what I thought, JTF, until the American interviewers took over. They made Ben Mulroney look good! But I guess that guy was more about the dresses than the actors.

I was hoping Mickey Rourke would win...he was amazing in the Wrestler. I haven't seen Milk and have zero interest in seeing it. I knew Heath Ledger would win....that was a given. I have Slumdog Millionaire but haven't watched it....I guess Hollywood turned Bollywood!

Mickey Rourke is UBER-WEIRD. He needs to crawl back into the hole he was in before he "resurrected" his career.

I see what you mean. Indeed, Mulroney knew everybody whereas the others didn't have any idea of the person they were talking to, but asked "Who are you wearing?"

It's nice to see Mickey Rourke back.

Slum dog sucked as an Oscar movie imo. Nothing special at all.

Ben Mulroney looked good??????????????????? Then the others must have been really really really bad cause I didn't think you could get much worse that B.M.
As far as Sean Penn winning, if you see the movie and see how well he portrayed Harvey Milk he did deserve the award. I'm not a fan of Sean Penn nor Mickey Rourke but to compare the two performances they were very close.

yeah but Sean Penn ( and heath ledger ) were guarenteed wins pratically. Heath because he died and Sean simply because of the topic. Damn near anyone could have taken that roll and as long as they did a half arsed job they would have won.

IMO, Sean Penn's best role was in Fast Times. I'm a fan of Mickey Rourke's and his performance was heart wrenching. The academy sucks as far as I'm concerned. Although I was happy to see Kate Winslet finally get an Oscar, she is an amazing actress.

I agree 100%. Mickey was a bad boy and is still on the outside looking in.....Yes he was nominated and I was hoping he'd win but I knew he wouldn't. I would've preferred to see Brad Pitt win over Commie Penn.

I wonder how much that opening number really cost.

When the five previous best actors were introduced to present the award to (as it turned out) to Penn, the announcer introduced Sir Ben Kingsley (with an emphasis on the Sir) and then Antony Hopkins. Hopkins was knighted some time ago and should have also been properly introduced as Sir Antony Hopkins.

Of course, I have read that Kingsley insists on being formally addressed as Sir Ben at all times. Two different egos I guess.

Easy to say the best actor came down to Penn and Rourke but Saturday "The Visitor" was on cable. Richard Jenkins did an incredible job and it was certainly Oscar winning caliber. Trouble is, no one would go out of their way to see the film because there are no name actors in it. I wonder how many voting members even saw it.

Personally I thought it was the best Oscars I've seen in over a decade.

The glamour was back, the performances were professional.

Bringing 5 previous winners out to address the newest nominees added class, and helps tie them all together. Makes it seem more like it's a family of entertainers, rather than an "I'm better than you" atmosphere.

Hugh Jackman did a phenomenal job, and certainly out performed most of the previous hosts.

I'll be honest, of all the movies nominated for awards, I've only seen 4...and NONE of the "Best Picture" nominees. I did find it amusing that they allowed the show to poke fun at the academy so much. The Will Smith segment commenting about how he likes action movies...with cars blowing up, and fights, and...fans...was hysterical. I'd be willing to bet there will be a number of action movies this year that are given second looks for top Oscars.
