Absolutely. Start a new thread as the topic is intriguing and it does not really belong in this thread. Smile

I have a living will that states that when the time comes and if assisted suicide is legal at that point, those are my wishes if I am diagnoses with such diseases as Alzheimers or terminal cancer of any kind. I have been co - caregiver for 2 grandparents who died well before their body did because of Alzheimers and am now the sole caregiver for my mother who is in the same situation and let me tell you I never ever want my children to have to deal with it, ever. There are also other things that can be done to "speed up" your personal health care and first thing is to take care of yourself. And if you don't like the opinion of the doctor you are seeing demand to be seen by another. If as you say health care is a business then treat it that way and demand customer satisfaction. If you are sick right now and need to see a doctor and you call your family doctor and the best they can do it next week, tell the assistant that is not good enough because by then it may be too late (you may be better by then or maybe not). I am fortunate that I have had the same family doctor since he started his practice 35 years ago and all of my children have seen him since they were born so that is also a bonus. One thing when we chose this particular doctor was his location not being downtown in a large facility and in a group setting.
These are just my feeling and how I have survived for the past 40+ years and I am fortunate that when I have been extremely ill, I have had the care of a very good doctor with very good referrals to doctors who were able to get me in quickly.

Where it comes to our "health care system' I think most want changes but believe that things won't change...kinda' resigned to the fact that our system sucks but we can't do much about it with the politicans we now have.
Not till the goverment stops treating it as a bureaucracy to put all of the paper pushers it hires in . The system is drowning in red tape and far too many civil servants instead of health care workers .

As it stands, I have a family doctor, If i need to see him asap it usually means 2 to 4 weeks to get in. If it is something urgent they tell me to go to an ER, If i go to an ER i can expect a lengthy wait, as ambulance after ambulance with drunken people are brought in for their 400th visit of the year. After about 8 to 12 hours i get a doctor who say's you'll be ok, go see your family doctor. Maybe he'll give me a few pain killers or anti-inflamatories as I leave and start at square one.

I've seen people in severe pain, get the run around by doctors because the blood work came back ok. Well its not ok. there are problems and their first priority is to prescribe some pill and send us on our way and when the pills run out, I have to make another appointment to get it re-newed. Because doctors don't get paid up here unless we visit them. So the endless cycle continues in and out, we don't get better and the doctor gets his pay, next patient please.

But its ok. Doer said he would improve the health care system in Manitoba. he said that when he ran for election against Filmon. It has gotten worse, and I pay more taxes. Great health care we have, great for people who dont pay taxes or great for people who can afford to fly to the States and pay for health care. Shitty for Joe Middle Class who Pays all the Bills in and for Canada.

yeah I have been waiting since early October to finally figure out what it is exactly I have that is slowing killing me. (my opinion only).. why.. see doctor.. sends me to specialist... specialist send me for tests.. then meet with specialist then back to my doctor... all with at least 3 week stretch in between each step.

We are all dying slowly! It is that some of us are in pain, and that is pretty ugly!
I have been thinking of ending it all, but then I realize that I am 129 posts behind #9, and I would hate for my life to end before I am able to accomplish my wish to be # 9 !! lol
lol!

Yes the sytem sure needs fixing and less paper pushers would be a start , as this is what goverment is good at.
