I recycle and almost 100% of the people on my street do as well. I do my part. :-)

When I lived in the North End, hardly anyone recycled on my street. When I lived in PD nobody on my street recycled. Now I live in the Maples and everyone on my street recycles. I find that very interesting.

I recycle, but I'll admit it's a habit of convenience.

My wife & her mother recycled all the time when we met. She would even carry the empty TP roll cardboard out to the recycle bin.

For me...I don't go out of my way to recycle, ie. the empty TP cardboard goes in a trash can. But we have a recycling bin in the kitchen & office (where we have most of our recyclables), so they do go out in the blue bins.

I've been to a recycling centre here. Had a grand tour...watched them sorting the different pieces.

If there's a low demand for recycling materials...then why not create a product which demands it? If an increased demand were created...there would be less waste, and greater profits all around.

Strange question...as opposed to just throwing it in the trash while sitting there.

well exactly
if its in the trash can immediatly to your left or right.. and you all of a sudden realize you are out of TP.... why not use the perfectly good empty TP roll sitting right there?

Why use a scratchy cardboard tube when you have a nice soft hand towel hanging beside you? Wink

Just be sure to replace the towels after.... don't leave the next user paperless and towel-less.

hmm... would installing bidets in every house save on our environment substanially? or would the extra water and electricity used ( for the ones with the blow drying capabilities ) be worse then the paper going down the drain all the time...

The proper way to recycle for City of Winnipeg pick-up.
http://www.winnipeg.ca/waterandwaste/recycle/bluebox.stm

Blue box recycling

To Recycle or Not - Page 2 Phil_blue_boxDon't sort them.
Don't tie them.
Just empty them and toss them in loose.
And no plastic bags!
Recycling is easy.
Good for our city,
Good for our planet.

You can recycle:
To Recycle or Not - Page 2 Apt_recycling_containers

  • plastic containers with a recycling triangle on the bottom, including all bottles, pails, tubs, and jugs
  • aluminum drink cans
  • steel (tin) food cans
  • milk and juice cartons
  • juice boxes
To Recycle or Not - Page 2 Recycling_triangle
To Recycle or Not - Page 2 Apt_recycling_paper

  • newspapers and inserts, flyers and junk mail
  • magazines, phone books, household paper, shredded paper and envelopes
  • cardboard egg cartons and paper tubes
  • flattened cardboard, no more than 1 metre in any direction, e.g., cereal, cracker, tissue, laundry, shoe and packing boxes
To Recycle or Not - Page 2 Apt_recycling_glass

  • glass jars and bottles (clear and coloured).

Common items you can't recycle:

  • plastic bags, plastic packaging and cellophane
  • household
hazardous waste containers, such as antifreeze, motor oil, and bleach –
you can identify many hazardous waste products by the danger symbol,
e.g., corrosive, explosive, poison and flammable
To Recycle or Not - Page 2 Toxicsymbol
  • aluminum foil or foil pie plates
  • foil or foam takeout food containers
  • foam packaging, foam egg cartons or foam meat trays
  • mirrors, window glass or light bulbs
  • drinking glasses, ceramics or cookware
Recycling tips:

  • Don't tie materials together as the processing facility can't remove bags, string, wire, etc.
  • Leave lids on containers, caps on bottles, staples in paper, labels on containers and windows in envelopes.
  • Give your containers a quick rinse to get rid of bacteria and odours.
  • Crush plastic bottles, milk jugs and milk and juice cartons to leave more room in your blue box.
  • Leave enough space between your blue box and your garbage so the workers can tell what to pick up.
  • Put your blue box out before 7:00 a.m. on your collection day.
  • Put out only items that we can recycle.
  • Remember, no plastic bags.
Don't put plastic bags inside your blue box, don't put plastic bags
outside your blue box and don't put your recyclable items in a plastic
    bag.
