If the US starts assigning basic rights and freedoms required to POWs under international law, then that may result in less hatred towards the US, and by extension other western nations, from middle eastern countries where these prisoners originate, and thus the world will become a safer place.Freeman wrote:So, closing Guantanmo, will the world be a safer place?

Gitmo did not exist prior to the terrorist attacks of 9/11, Desert Shield and Desert Storm, the attack on the USS Cole, and a multitude of other "attacks" on not only the US, but western countries as well. Yet, there was plenty of hatred before all of that too.
To make the suggestion that the closing of the POW detention centre at Guantanamo Bay will somehow make the world a safer place is a massive inferential leap and is not based on anything real, other than misdirected anti-US, anti-Bush sentiment.
