I could have sworn that I read some place that you could actually ride a City of Winnipeg Transit bus for free. It's true.

Winnipeg Transit policy allows for free rides

The City of Winnipeg's transit service has a policy that allows drivers
to waive bus fare for a range of reasons. It can be for someone stranded
in the cold, or for someone who just can't — or won't — pay.

well now...that's one way to increase assaults on bus drivers.

telling everyone publicly that it's up to the bus driver who has to pay to ride.

so now everyone who gets on a bus (that can read), will be trying to convince the driver that he/she should not have to pay, for whatever the reason...and the driver has the authority to make the decision.

It will also open claims up about discrimination, racism, ageism, etc...since the driver can arbitrarily determine who pays.

Although more likely, the policy will change, where the drivers will be required to fill a report indicating when they allow someone to ride for free, and the reasons behind it...including a list of "authorized circumstances".

I know they used to have what was called a "Fare Evasion Slip", which I believe was a form of IOU. Easy to exploit (for the more exploitative among us) as they never asked for ID.
