BS, when I moved from Ontario my premiums went up even though I reduced my coverage and went from heavy commuter to leisure driver. Rates are only relatively low here for high risk driver punks.

Did you know?

MPIC will only replace one tire if only one tire is damaged. (RE: radial tires and 4-wheel/AWD vehicles)

That is contrary to Transport Canada; Nat. Tran. Safety Board; Tire mfg Assoc and the manufacturer.

All say to treat tires in sets of 4.

However, the bastards at the NDP HQ allow unbelievable expenses and perks for themselves and their appointed buddies, while denying safety concerns.

Yup - the MPIC abomination really should be privatized or the monopoly be opened up for competition. The election issues are all wrong, why should we care about Hydro when 1000s of Manitobans are much more affected by this.

I don't think we need to throw the baby out with the bathwater regarding public insurance.

What we need to throw out are the bums running the thing and their corrupt sponsors.

Let's face it, if you eliminate the profit motive (private companies) you must save money.

However, one cannot bloat the organization with bureaucrats and overpay them and be cheaper than private.

It's easy to see where the problem lies.

Maybe if they operate a profitable day care business they can bring down the rates?

that may wellbe true, but its not within their mandate, nor should they be using any start up funds from insurance for it

I just read that the rates are going down 6.8%. That is pretty great NDP business acumen!!

That should eliminate any negative reports on this non-slanderous forum! lol

Here's a thesis to investigate:

MPI makes the streets more dangerous by supporting bad drivers.

In other provinces, premiums rapidly increase based on bad driving habits. However in Manitoba, the premiums don't rise as fast. Does this lead to more bad drivers on the road? The Hypothesis would be that bad drivers in other provinces either get their insurance cancelled or priced where they can't afford it; wile in Manitoba, insurance rates for bad drivers are relatively affordable.

Love to see the stats on that. E.g. what equivilent in other provinces to our top demerit level and is insurance even available at that point?

And at the same time, safe drivers are actually paying HIGHER premiums than in other provinces. It's a rip-off, and privatized or competitive insurance would have more focus on risk minimization.

No big surprise. I pay a few hundred more per year (across 2 vehicles) in Manitoba than I did in Alberta.

The averages might look like they are close, but bad drivers pay CONSIDERABLY more in Alberta and good drivers pay much less.

Is there any website that compares the costs by the same vehicle?

I thought years ago manitoba rates were close to the lowest?

No side by side comparison site I have seen.
But I have in the past compared via MPI website, and a few other insurance agents in other provinces (and a couple states just for fun). I was comparing motorcycle rates.
In some cases, MPI was triple the other rates. But in all cases they were much higher.

I guess we need to keep those drivers who habitually run over people or through red lights on the road, so cameras keep on making money. It's a big conspiracy.
