nah.. two broken off wisdom teeth. I can take the pain, I just cant take someone being in my face for as long as that kind of surgery would take.

two broken wisdom teeth? ouch.

he might not do it...might send you to an endodontist rather than do the work himself.

anyway...you can call...
Garden Oaks Dental - 338-7856
Dr. Hawthorn or Dr. Rittberg

Or...try http://www.endoexperience.com/ they did a root canal for me and were great, but it was by referral...don't know if they take "walk-in".

well to be fair the one only broke because I tried pulling it out myself. The last dentist did a root canal on them and never cleaned it out good enough so they kinda rotted from the inside..

Wha? Geebus Deank. I had ONE wisdom tooth pulled by a specialist under much local anesthesia. It hurt like hell for a week. Whatever were you thinking?

LOL

I think its actually part of the problem, I floss everyday and brush two to three times per day but dont feel much pain in my mouth so if something starts going wrong I dont really notice it until its too late.

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaak. Should not have opened this thread. "Tried pulling it out myself..." and "rotted from the inside" make me woozy just READING. Your poor, poor mouth, man! I've had 4 wisdom teeth pulled under conscious sedation (read: assbuckets of Valium) and the subsequent gaping holes were so painful that even baby Jesus wept with me. Hie thee to a dental specialist, STAT. May godspeed your dental plan, or your wallet will be crying too...

You're making me cringe and contort my face in Jim Carrey-esque manners. I have never had a root canal, and I don't intend to. *spits* From my lips to His ears.

Root canals (done correctly) are not too bad.
The shot to numb the area is more painful than most the work...and even the healing isn't too terrible...as there's no root left to generate the pain.

If you've had a root canal already DeanK, then there's no reason to go under...a simple local would be all you need.

An extraction (unless they have to do surgery) even for a wisdom tooth (or two) takes less than about 10 minutes. I had 3 wisdom teeth pulled in one sitting without going under (they were impacted).

The only thing to protect against is getting a dry socket afterwards...THAT is more painful than anything else the dentist may do.

Yikes. Dean you tried to pull it yourself? I am no fan of the dentist (I had one really bad experience) but I do go every 6 months for a cleaning. I have never had a root canal or had any wisdom teeth removed. I do have 2 small cavities that need to be filled and that is what I tend to put off. No matter how much freezing I get I can still feel it when my dentist drills. So I to am looking for a dentist who performs sleep dentistry just to get these 2 fillings filled without feeling a thing!

"If you've had a root canal already DeanK, then there's no reason to go under...a simple local would be all you need."

The reason is I simply can not stand laying down in the chair with them hovering over top of me like that. Nothing really to do with pain, I just dont want to be in any way shape or form coherent when they do it. Plus there is that one lower wisdom tooth growing up under the back tooth that would be nice to finally get fixed/pulled/whatever

"Yikes. Dean you tried to pull it yourself?"

heh, yeah, my wife was none to happy with all the blood the next morning.and while I got the top half and about 1/6 of the part below the gumline I cant get the rest out, mostly because there is nothing left to grab on to, (twisted roots have always been a problem as well) and now the gums are growing over the broken off parts.

so any way.. sleep denistry, preferably a dentist that aint a self righteous arsehole?

well...did you try the two i listed?

i know when i first moved here, the Garden Oaks Dental had it as an option.

The endo place i listed i believe also does...but again...he's a specialist (which you may need to get the tooth you broke off)...but you'll want insurance.

i recently had a special root canal done (one i had YEARS ago in the US failed on me) and it still cost me about $300. But he's very good.

Even puts a camera in your mouth so you can watch what he's doing on the screen on the ceiling Smile.

Do you see Dr Rittberg? He was my dentist in the late 80's, not sure why I stopped going to see him. I assume he is still located in the same place (by BP on MCPhillips)?

You may need a dental surgeon.

thats what I am thinking to JTF. the one tooth is quite well impacted, the other teeth dont have much left to pull on properly and even if they did, the strength is not really there.

I had 2 wisdom teeth removed by my dentist with no anaesthetics, no pain killers. Hurt like hell for the first few seconds then just throbbed for the rest of the day. The scary part was that he used what looked like a common screw driver to pop the teeth out.
